  • Patent number: 8992215
Abstract: An orthodontic appliance is automatically designed and manufactured from digital lower jaw and tooth shape data of a patient. A computer calculates the post-treatment positions of the teeth and produces three-dimensional images of the teeth, individually and in their calculated positions. The appliance is automatically designed according to the final design, which also can be interactively modified and approved by the orthodontist, with the computer recalculating the effects on the treatment as a result of the doctor's changes. Brackets are fabricated as an integrated set, either by cutting slots therein or by building the brackets in layers by, for example, stereo lithography. Three-dimensional custom jigs are automatically made to exactly position the brackets on a patient's teeth.

  • Patent number: 8962294
Abstract: An acetyl xylan esterase variant having perhydrolytic activity is provided for producing peroxycarboxylic acids from carboxylic acid esters and a source of peroxygen. More specifically, a Thermotoga maritima acetyl xylan esterase gene was modified using error-prone PCR and site-directed mutagenesis to create an enzyme catalyst characterized by an increase in specific activity. The variant acetyl xylan esterase may be used to produce peroxycarboxylic acids suitable for use in a variety of applications such as cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing, bleaching, wood pulp processing, and paper pulp processing applications.

  • Publication number: 20140336128
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to fusion proteins including gigaxonin coupled to a cell penetrant peptide. These fusion proteins can be used to treat GAN in a subject in need thereof. Administration of the fusion proteins allows for control of at least one of Galectin-1 (GAL-1) levels and phosphorylated vimentin protein levels, thereby mediating aggregation of vimentin and the formation of vimentin-free zones in cells.

  • Patent number: 8690568
Abstract: A system (10) and method by which an orthodontic appliance (25) is automatically designed and manufactured from digital lower jaw and tooth shape data of a patient provides for the scanning of the mouth of a patient (12), preferably from a model (20) of the patient's mouth, to produce a three-dimensional digitized model (26) of the shapes of the patient's teeth and their positions in the patient's mouth. Then a computer (30) calculates the post-treatment positions of the teeth and produces three-dimensional images of the teeth, individually and in their calculated positions.

  • Patent number: 8635419
Abstract: Embodiments provide systems and methods for maintaining immutable data in an archiving system using random access memory. To ensure data is immutable, novel pointers are maintained. For example, a modular drive bay maintains a pointer to a memory address in the removable drive memory cannot write data to a memory block that precedes the pointer. Data may only be stored after the pointer in the removable drive. As such, once data is written to the removable drive, the data cannot be overwritten although the removable drive employs random access memory.

  • Patent number: 8407369
Abstract: Embodiments provide unique and novel systems and methods for deleting data on removable drives. In embodiments, the removable drives store data that may be erased such that the data is considered destroyed but that allows the removable drive to be reused. The archiving system can determine which data should be erased. Then, the data is digitally shredded on sector boundaries of the removable drives such that the reclaimed memory cannot be read to decipher the erased data. In alternative embodiments, data is written across sector boundaries such that two or more files may occupy a single sector. A journal area allows for copying the data in a sector with two or more files, digitally shredding the sectors in the removable drive, and rewriting the data that was not to be digitally shredded to the original location of the data.

  • Patent number: 8367728
Abstract: A process is provided for producing peroxycarboxylic acids from carboxylic acid esters. More specifically, carboxylic acid esters are reacted with an inorganic peroxide, such as hydrogen peroxide, in the presence of an enzyme catalyst having perhydrolysis activity. The present perhydrolase catalysts are classified as members of the carbohydrate esterase family 7 (CE-7) based on the conserved structural features. Further, disinfectant formulations comprising the peracids produced by the processes described herein are provided.

Abstract: Embodiments provide systems and methods for maintaining immutable data in an archiving system using random access memory. To ensure data is immutable, novel pointers are maintained in the hardware/firmware of the drive ports and on the removable disk drives. Data may only be stored after the pointer in the removable disk drive.
