The WTRU may determine whether to select a first random access channel (RACH) procedure or a second RACH procedure for the random access. The first RACH procedure may be a legacy RACH procedure. The second RACH procedure may be an enhanced RACH (eRACH) procedure. The WTRU may determine whether to select the first RACH procedure or the second RACH procedure based at least on a type of uplink data to be transmitted. When the second RACH procedure is selected, the WTRU may determine at least one physical random access channel (PRACH) resource associated with the second RACH procedure. The WTRU may determine a preamble sequence associated with the second RACH procedure. The WTRU may determine a data resource for the uplink data. The WTRU may send a RACH transmission that includes the preamble sequence and the uplink data.

A PCC subframe with a control portion and a data portion may be received. Resource assignment information associated with a downlink shared channel on the PCC may be embedded in the control portion of the subframe. Based on the resource assignment information on the PCC, resource assignment information associated with a downlink shared channel on the SuppCC may be identified in the data portion of the PCC subframe. A SuppCC subframe of the shared channel on the SuppCC may be processed as per the identified resource assignment information associated with the downlink shared channel on the SuppCC.

The HeNB may determine a measuring gap schedule relating to the first cluster of UEs and the second cluster of UEs. The measuring gap schedule may indicate a measurement time for each cluster. The measurement time may indicate that UEs in a cluster withhold a transmission during the measurement time. The UEs in the cluster may measure a spectrum (e.g., frequency, channel, etc.) associated with a supplementary cell during the measurement time. The HeNB may send the measuring gap schedule to the first cluster of UEs and the second cluster of U Es. The HeN B may receive spectrum measurements of the supplementary cell from the first cluster of UEs and the second cluster of UEs, e.g., in accordance with the measuring gap schedule.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for shared access systems may be used to allow operation in three-tiered shared spectrum architecture. For example, a Shared Spectrum Manager (SSM) may organize spectrum segments. The SSM may communicate with access users of different priority and may use message exchanges to request spectrum, bid for spectrum, manage spectrum, or the like. The SSM may manage admission of access users (allocation of spectrum to users) and operation with a spectrum request that may be provided as a range between a minimum (guaranteed) and maximum quality of operation. The SSM may also manage the way an access user may use the assigned spectrum. Inter-SSM communication may be used in regions where multiple SSMs may exist (e.g. country borders). Accordingly, triggers for this inter-SSM communications and corresponding actions are also disclosed herein.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for effecting power control as well as frequency and timing synchronization in an LTE component carrier functioning in UL-only mode or device-to-device mode, including a UL-only cell in LTE, as well as an new enabling Special Uplink Reference Signal (SURS) that is used to determine the UEs that can take advantage of a UL-only cell. One approach includes interrupting the UL-only operation in a periodic fashion to send a sync signal by the eNB. Another approach includes sending a well know synchronization sequence by the UEs in a periodic fashion, which the eNB compares with its own local frequency reference and sends feedback to the UE to readjust the frequency. Another approach uses dedicated subcarriers where the eNB can send synchronization symbols on the same channel and simultaneously with data being transmitted in the uplink. The UEs transmitting in the UL direction are equipped to receive simultaneously the synchronization symbols on these dedicated subcarriers.
