Patent number: 5577768Abstract: An inflater and a control unit are integrally formed so that connector cables for electrically connecting the inflater and the control unit can be shortened to the minimum required length. In some cases, the inflater and the control unit are directly connected by soldering their terminals, and a space for disposing the connector cables is not provided in a steering wheel. Thus, the cone depth can be made as small as possible.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1994Date of Patent: November 26, 1996Assignee: Nippondenso Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masahiro Taguchi, Kazutaka Katoh, Shigenori Kobayashi, Naoki Nakane, Kazuo Sakakibara, Masayuki Ohashi

Patent number: 5577205Abstract: A multiple computer system having team/work group features built in. A principal hardware component thereof is a unitary chassis of a compact tower configuration, designed to house electronics for up to four personal computers, all operating on a single power supply. The unitary chassis provides interconnecting cable for connecting up to four corresponding display terminals and keyboards. One of the personal computers in the chassis is designated the TEAMHUB and the remaining personal computers in the chassis are designated TEAMMATES. Up to three such TEAMMATES may be included in one such chassis. Two TEAMPRO systems may be readily combined to serve up to eight local users in a team/work group environment. Each such computer electronics within the TEAMCHASSIS provides a communication card, which may for example be a SCSI card providing data rate transfer between TEAMHUB and TEAMMATES at 10 Megabytes per second.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1995Date of Patent: November 19, 1996Assignee: HT Research, Inc.Inventors: Ivan C. Patent number: 5547215Abstract: An airbag of an airbag system is formed by sewing an edge of at least one piece of cloth two-dimensionally like a balloon. An airbag installation hole which introduces gas from an inflator into the airbag is off set from a center position of the airbag in back and forth direction of a vehicle to be away from a vehicular occupant. The airbag system is installed in an interior component of a vehicle so that the airbag inflates upwards rather than horizontally. When the airbag is inflated completely, the airbag projects towards the vehicular occupant because the airbag installation hole is formed in the off-centered position. Therefore, it is possible to fill a gap efficiency in front of the vehicular occupant with the inflated airbag and protect the vehicular occupant sufficiently.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1995Date of Patent: August 20, 1996Assignee: Nippondenso Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masahiro Taguchi, Kazutaka Katoh, Masatada Yoshida

Patent number: 5338062Abstract: A side collision sensor system for a side airbag apparatus for inflating an airbag between a side door or inner side wall and a passenger of a vehicle, when a transverse collision is detected, to protect the passenger against a secondary collision. The side collision sensor system comprises: a side collision sensor arranged on the side of a vehicle body for outputting a collision detection signal, if it is compressed by a force of a predetermined or higher strength; and an acceleration sensor attached to an arbitrary portion of the vehicle body for outputting a collision detection signal if an acceleration applied sideways to the vehicle body has a predetermined or higher level. The side airbag is inflated if at least one of the side collision sensor and the acceleration sensor outputs its collision detection signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1992Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignees: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha, Nippondenso Co., Ltd., Nippon Soken, Inc.Inventors: Toru Kiuchi, Kenji Ogata, Masakazu Chiba, Toshiaki Matsuhashi, Masahiro Taguchi, Motonori Tominaga

Patent number: 5335749Abstract: A crash detection sensor having a supporting member arranged in a space in a door. The supporting member has sufficient strength to maintain its state under normal conditions. First and second electrodes, usually spaced, are provided on the supporting member. A shock larger than a predetermined level applied to the door causes the first and the second electrodes to be brought into contact with each other, thereby allowing a lateral impact to be detected in the door.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1992Date of Patent: August 9, 1994Assignees: Nippondenso Co., Ltd., Nippon Soken, Inc., Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masahiro Taguchi, Motonori Tominaga, Toshiaki Matsuhashi, Koichi Fujita

Patent number: 5322323Abstract: A collision sensing system for a side air bag system has a door opening state detector and an air bag actuation inhibiter. The side air bag system is provided with an air bag which is confined in a side door of a vehicle and inflated and expanded in a space between an occupant of the vehicle and the inner side wall of the compartment such as the side door when a collision detector detects a vehicle collision. The air bag actuation inhibiter inhibits the inflation of the air bag when the door opening state detector detects the open state of the side door.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1992Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Assignees: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha, Nippon Soken, Inc., Nippondenso Co., Ltd.Inventors: Mitsuyoshi Ohno, Toshihito Miyagawa, Masahiro Taguchi, Motonori Tominaga, Toshiaki Matsuhashi

Patent number: 5316336Abstract: An air bag is stored in a folded state in a space in a door or an arm rest, laterally of a passenger in a cabin. An inflator for generating a flow of gas is also stored inside the door or the arm rest. When a collision occurs, the inflator discharges a flow of gas directed upward and introduced into the air bag, which causes the air bag to be inflated so that the inflated air bag occupies a space between a passenger and the door or the vehicle body, laterally of passenger. As a result, the passenger is cushioned from any shock caused by the collision, to thereby protect the passenger from injury.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1992Date of Patent: May 31, 1994Assignees: Nippondenso Co., Ltd., Nippon Soken, Inc.Inventors: Masahiro Taguchi, Motonori Tominaga, Toshiaki Matsuhashi

Patent number: 5307896Abstract: A sensor that can rapidly and accurately detect a side collision of a vehicle. The sensor includes a fixed member in a vehicle door and a movable member that has an impact receiving part. The impact receiving part has a high rigidity outside of the fixed member. The impact receiving part also has energy absorbing parts with lower rigidity and a detection part arranged opposite to the movable member at a predetermined interval above the fixed member. When the impact receiving part receives an impact exceeding a predetermined valve, the energy absorption parts are deformed so as to move the movable member. This movement is then detected by the detection part.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1992Date of Patent: May 3, 1994Assignees: Nippondenso Co., Ltd., Nippon Soken, Inc.Inventors: Masahiro Taguchi, Motonori Tominaga, Toshiaki Matsuhashi
