  • Patent number: 6595157
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for positioning an animal related member, e.g. teat cups, of a milking animal, more specifically to a method to initialize an automatic positioning device to utilize a sequence of movements associated with the animal. The sequence of positioning movements is associated with a class to which the animal belongs among a plurality number of classes corresponding to the identity of the animal. The animal is beforehand assigned to a class based on its individual position of each teat. The different sequence of movements, for different shapes of udders on the animal, may speed up the process for positioning the teat cups and thereby increase the through-put of animals in the system. The present invention also relates to a control device.

  • Patent number: 6532892
Abstract: A method for recognizing and determining the position of at least one teat of a milking animal, including the steps: moving a scanning head including a light source to a region containing the teat or teats, capturing at least one image formed by said light, evaluating the image or images so as to determine if each image describes said teat or teats. The scanning head (1) is moved to a fixed initial position (A) in the room which is under the animal and clearly in front of an udder and thereby the teats of all known relevant animals, thereafter the scanning head is moved in determined steps (A-J) under the animal: upwards towards the animal, downwards, backwards towards the udder, upwards, downwards etc., while carrying out the scanning procedure. The invention also concerns an apparatus carrying out the process and a milking robot including such an apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6476574
Abstract: A method and device (1) for controlling the movement of a movable part such as a robot arm (3) in a milking robot (1). A control (7) controls the movement of the arm (3) from an actual position (Pxa, Pya, Pza) to a desired position (Pxd, Pyd, Pzd) A detector (45, 47, 49) detects the actual position of the robot arm (3) and transmits signals corresponding to the actual position to the control (7). The predicted position (Pxp, Pyp, PyP), that the robot arm (3) will pass through as it moves from the actual position to the desired position our model (S). The control (7) makes a comparison (S) of the actual positions of the arm (3) against to the predicted positions, and the movement of the robot arm (3) is modified if its actual position at any time differs by more than a predetermined amount from the predicted position at the same time.

  • Publication number: 20020073410
Abstract: Software in the form of a program (60) is replaced (e.g., upgraded) on a telecommunications platform (node) (620, 20) without shutting down the telecommunications functions of the platform. The old program (601.0) that is replaced is of a type which stores state information in a state storage system (200). In connection with a software (program) replacement operation for the old program, after a new program (601.1) is started either a shutdown (2-4) instruction is sent to the old program, a software support function of the platform activates a conversion program (80). The conversion program renders the state information of the old program as converted state information which is usable by the new program.

  • Publication number: 20020073409
Abstract: A telecommunications platform (20) comprises a cluster (32) of processors (30) which perform a platform central processing function. The platform central processing function includes a cluster support function (50) which is distributed to the cluster of processors. For sake of redundancy, programs (PGMs) are distributed throughout the cluster so that at least some of the processors of the cluster have active versions of at least some of the programs and standby versions of others of the programs, e.g., an intermixing of assignments of active and standby versions of programs. Moreover, programs and programs comprising them can be loaded, started, shutdown, stopped, and upgraded without terminating overall operation the platform. In its various aspects, the cluster support function (50) includes a state storage system (200) and a name server system (300) for facilitating restart and switch over of programs and programs executed by processors of the cluster.
