  • Patent number: 9320017
Abstract: UTRAN MAC-d multiplexing of data from multiple logical channels to a single MAC-d flow is supported while reducing overhead and achieving octet alignment in MAC-d PDU length. In one embodiment, the C/T field of a multiplexed MAC-d PDU is eliminated, and the logical channels multiplexed into the MAC-d flow are mapped to a MAC-hs PQ in at least the NodeB (and preferably in the UE as well). In other embodiments, the C/T field is retained, and an octet-aligned length indicator is transmitted from the RNC to the UE. In one embodiment, the length indicator is octet-aligned by padding the MAC-d PDUs. In another embodiment, transmitters and receivers in the path from RNC to UE are configured with an offset to add to the length indicator to achieve octet alignment. The padding or offset is (8-n) bits, where n=the number of bits in C/T field.

  • Publication number: 20160066341
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for requesting scheduling of resources to be used for uplink communication of data in a communications system. If the repeated transmission by a user equipment of scheduling requests on an uplink control channel is determined to be unsuccessful, a random access transmission on a random access channel is initiated as a fallback procedure.

  • Patent number: 9241310
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for reducing a state transition time from a power saving state for a user equipment (18) in a communication network. The state transition time is reduced by retaining in the user equipment (18) one or more information parameter, such as the radio network temporary identifier for a high speed downlink shared channel (H-RNTI), when performing a state transition to said power saving state so as to enable a time reduction when said user equipment switches back from said power saving state.

  • Patent number: 9232430
Abstract: A method of controlling the volume of user-plane traffic on the Iub or Iub/Iur interface between a Radio Network Controller and a Node B of a UMTS Radio Access Network during periods of overload. The method comprises, for individual uplink or downlink connections established over the Iub or Iub/Iur interface, monitoring at the Radio Network Controller the late arrival of frames at the Radio Network Controller or at the Node B transmitted over the Iub or Iub/Iur interface, and based on the results of said monitoring, causing a reduction in the Iub or Iub/Iur load for a connection when appropriate.

  • Publication number: 20150341952
Abstract: According to the invention data in a number of logical downlink intended for one or more mobile terminals are received in a first mapping unit, where at least a first High Speed Radio Network Temporary identity is allocated to these logical downlink channels addressing a group of mobile terminals for allowing transmission of channel data for reception by mobile terminals. A mobile terminal then reads, from a Broadcast Control Channel, necessary information including a High Speed Radio Network Temporary identity allocated to at least one logical downlink channel, where at least said first identity exists among possible identities. It then listens to a high speed shared control channel for the read identity. In case it detects the identity, the terminal follows a scheduling command, receives data on a high-speed downlink shared channel and processes said data.

  • Patent number: 9179494
Abstract: The invention provides for a method and a node for integrating the devices (20a-20g) of a meshed multi-hop network (20) in a mobile communication network (10). The method comprises the following steps: attaching at least one device of said meshed multi-hop network to said mobile communication network, retrieving, in at least one node of said mobile communication network, from at least one base station of said mobile communication network, information about the devices of said meshed multi-hop network that may be accessed through said base station, and storing, in said node (11) for each device, said information such that said node knows, for each device, through which base stations (23) it may be accessed. Thereby, the meshed multi-hop network is integrated in the mobile communication network.

  • Publication number: 20150311988
Abstract: A mobile terminal receives, over a first cell configured on a carrier frequency, at least one parameter associated with a second cell configured on a carrier frequency. The at least one parameter comprises a cell identity. The mobile terminal then derives at least one physical layer characteristic for the second cell based on the received at least one parameter. Thereby, the mobile terminal is able to receive transmissions over the second cell, even if it could not initially detect the presence of the cell.

  • Patent number: 9166733
Abstract: A method and nodes for providing adaptive segmentation in a higher protocol layer interacting with a lower protocol layer. An adaptable segmentation limit, defining a threshold of a largest Protocol Data Unit (PDU) that is to be submitted to a lower protocol layer, is deployed at a higher protocol layer interacting with the lower protocol layer. A PDU to be submitted to the lower protocol layer may match any transport block size that is available in the lower protocol layer. For each Service Data Unit (SDU) arriving at the higher protocol layer, it is determined if the respective SDU can fit into the segmentation limit or not. Each SDU that do not fit into the segmentation limit is segmented into PDUs which are smaller than or equal to the segmentation limit, while no segmentation is performed on SDUs that fit into the segmentation limit.

  • Patent number: 9137765
Abstract: Methods and arrangements for adjusting timing of transmissions in a radio communication system in which aggregation of component carriers is employed are disclosed. A base station sends a first TA command applicable to a first component carrier to a user equipment. A need to maintain different uplink transmission timing for the first user equipment component carrier and second uplink component carrier is detected by the base station. The base station then sends a second TA command based on the detected need to maintain different uplink transmission timing. The second TA command is applicable to uplink transmissions on the first component carrier and/or the second component carrier. The user equipment adjusts uplink transmissions on the first component carrier and/or the second uplink component carrier based on the second timing advance command.

  • Publication number: 20150257025
Abstract: Measurement handling is of interest in a user equipment (UE) in connected mode, with the UE being configured with multiple downlink component carriers (CCs). The UE evaluates the signal quality of a specific CC of the configured CCs against a configurable threshold to determine the need for neighbor cell measurements. The UE performs neighbor cell measurements if the signal quality of the specific CC is below the configurable threshold. In this way, robust and efficient measurement handling is provided, even though the UE is configured with multiple component carriers.

  • Publication number: 20150163693
Abstract: Congestion in a radio access network (RAN) associated with transporting uplink information originating from one or more mobile terminals is detected. That detected RAN congestion is reduced using any suitable technique (several examples are described) and may be implemented in one or more nodes in the RAN. One advantageous (but non-limiting) application is to a RAN that supports high speed uplink packet access (HSUPA) and/or one or more enhanced uplink dedicated channels (E-DCHs).

  • Publication number: 20150148044
Abstract: Methods and arrangements in a base station and a User Equipment are provided. The methods and arrangements relates to the scenario when the UE is handed over from a source base station to a target base station in a handover scenario, and wherein the target base station may not support functionalities which the source base station and the UE support. The method in the UE comprises receiving (501) a configuration message from the target base station via the source base station, configuring (502) the UE based on the received configuration message from the target base station by searching (503) for a second field in an information element of the received configuration message. The presence/non-presence or a value of the second field is indicative of how to manage a configured first functionality associated with an optional first field, wherein the configured first functionality may not be supported by the target base station.
