  • Patent number: 6008424
Abstract: A process for the transalkylation of benzene, toluene and alkylaromatic hydrocarbons containing nine and ten carbon atoms form alkylaromatic hydrocarbons containing eight carbon atoms has been developed. The fixed bed reaction and adsorption zone contains a transalkylation catalyst and an adsorbent effective to selectively adsorb C.sub.9 and C.sub.10 alkylaromatic hydrocarbon reactants relative to the C.sub.8 alkylaromatic hydrocarbon products. Hydrogen and a desorbent are introduced to a first portion of the zone and an effluent containing at least one C.sub.8 alkylaromatic hydrocarbon product is withdrawn from a second portion of the zone. After a period of time, the desorbent is redirected to the second portion of the zone and concurrently the effluent containing at least one C.sub.8 alkylaromatic hydrocarbon product is withdrawn from the first portion of the zone.

  • Patent number: 5482910
Abstract: A process for preparing catalysts has been developed. The process involves the use of a chelating ligand such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. The aqueous solution of the chelating ligand and a promoter metal salt is first prepared heated to a temperature of about 80.degree. C. to about its boiling point and then combined with an aqueous solution containing a Group VIII metal compound. Next this mixed solution is aged at a temperature of about 40.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C. and then used to impregnate a support, e.g., alumina spheres. The impregnated support is then dried, calcined and reduced with hydrogen. Prior to reduction the catalyst may optionally be treated with a chlorine or chloride stream.

  • Patent number: 4717781
Abstract: Unsaturated hydrocarbons may be prepared by subjecting a dehydrogenatable hydrocarbon to dehydrogenation in the presence of a dehydrogenation catalyst. The effluent stream from this step, comprising unconverted hydrocarbons, dehydrogenated hydrocarbons, hydrogen and steam, may then be passed to a selective oxidation step in which the hydrogen is selectively oxidized in the presence of an oxygen-containing gas to the substantial exclusion of the oxidation of the hydrocarbons. The oxidation catalyst which is employed will comprise a Group VIII noble metal, a Group IVA metal and a Group IA or IIA metal composited on a metal oxide support. The metal oxide support such as alumina will possess a particular configuration having one or more open channels such as a tubular or cartwheel particle having an outside to inside diameter ratio of the channels ranging from 1.
