  • Patent number: 10916414
Abstract: The disclosure features systems and methods that include: exposing a biological sample to an ion beam that is incident on the sample at a first angle to a plane of the sample by translating a position of the ion beam on the sample in a first direction relative to a projection of a direction of incidence of the ion beam on the sample; after each translation of the ion beam in the first direction, adjusting a focal length of an ion source that generates the ion beam; and measuring and analyzing secondary ions generated from the sample by the ion beam after adjustment of the focal length to determine mass spectral information for the sample, where the sample is labeled with one or more mass tags and the mass spectral information includes populations of the mass tags at locations of the sample.

  • Publication number: 20200143264
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for managing knowledge. Users of the knowledge management (KM) service or system may provide post questions, provide answers or search for answers via a user interface. For a given question, users may collectively construct and refine an answer hierarchy that may include multiple answer paths or solutions to the same question. To this end, users may add, remove and/or modify nodes of the answer hierarchy. The nodes may be of predefined types such as Step, Goto or Fork. In addition, users may provide or modify content specific to individual nodes of the answer hierarchy such as attachments, questions, references or comments. Given an answer hierarchy, users may preview alternate paths and compare different answer paths representing different solutions based on user-specific fact patterns or requirements before making their selections along a particular path to a solution.

  • Patent number: 10641585
Abstract: An automated system and method provides for planning and response to disparate threats with combined kinetic (e.g., missile interceptor) and non-kinetic (e.g., cyber and electronic warfare) effects. The threat and effects inputs and the results of analysis tools that individually apply a single effect type to negate a threat vulnerability are normalized to a form and format ingestible by a Stochastic Math Model (SMM). The normalized inputs reflect the success/failure of the effect versus a threat vulnerability as a score, not a probability. The normalized results decompose a probability of defeat (Pdefeat) for an individual effect as a set of hierarchical parameters represented as probabilities.

  • Publication number: 20200088204
Abstract: Pumps are provided for transferring fluids between tanks and other types of vessels. The pumps include a rotating impeller that pumps the fluid, and an electric motor that imparts rotation to the impeller. The impeller is mounted for rotation on a shaft by way of a bushing. The bushing is made of a material suitable for contact with food products intended for human consumption. Also, the material can withstand the elevated temperatures that arise in the bushing when the pump is run in a dry condition, i.e., without any fluid passing through the pump.

  • Publication number: 20190267227
Abstract: The disclosure features methods and systems that include directing an ion beam to a region of a sample to liberate charged particles from the region of the sample, where the directed ion beam is pulsed at a first repetition rate, deflecting a first subset of the liberated charged particles from a first path to a second path different from the first path in response to a gate signal synchronized with the repetition rate of the pulsed ion beam, and detecting the first subset of the liberated charged particles in a time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer to determine information about the sample, where the gate signal sets a common reference time for the TOF mass spectrometer for the first subset of charged particles liberated by each pulse of the ion beam.

  • Patent number: 9927957
Abstract: Embodiments of this disclosure enable synchronized content items, such as an ebook and corresponding audiobook, to be navigated via a rotational interface (e.g., a “jog wheel”). Specifically, a playback device is disclosed that enables a rotational interface to be used to select locations within an audiobook or other audio content. During selection of a location, the playback device can maintain an output indicator indicating one or more words within a textual content that match the selected location within the audio content. Thus, a user is enabled to easily and intuitively select precise locations within audio content. In some embodiments, an acceleration or speed of input to the rotational interface may modify how quickly locations within the content item are traversed.

  • Patent number: 9639579
Abstract: A system receives a search query from a user and searches a group of repositories, based on the search query, to identify, for each of the repositories, a set of search results. The system also identifies one of the repositories based on a likelihood that the user desires information from the identified repository and presents the set of search results associated with the identified repository.
