  • Patent number: 8505747
Abstract: A cyclonic debris evacuation apparatus and method for evacuating debris in a pumping system that forms between the plunger exterior and barrel interior. The apparatus is configured for use with a valve rod and has a cyclone component, cup component, ring component, and ring coupler component. The apparatus is also configured for use with a hollow valve rod and has a hollow valve rod coupler component, cup component, ring component, and ring coupler component. The cup component can be composed of a high density poly-fiber material that helps in creating a positive seal between the cup component and barrel interior during pumping operations, helping to direct solids into the cup component and thereby preventing them from travelling southward in the direction of the barrel and causing damage. In another embodiment, the cup component can include a specialized leading edge adapted to direct solids into the cup component.

  • Publication number: 20130140247
Abstract: A sand check filter for preventing solids from reentering into a pump. The filter is designed to mount atop a conventional rod pump. The filter allows well fluid, that contains high solids, to pass through the pump under normal operation while eliminating the solids from being swept back into the pump barrel. The filter includes a sleeve that has radial flutes that allows the sleeve from hanging up, sticking to or wedging itself to the valve rod. The sleeve is rotated on the valve rod to create a valve effect atop the filter. This prevents the fluid from passing through the inner diameter of the screen and forces solids within the fluid to be redirected to the outer diameter of the filter. This allows the fluid to be filtered before reentering the pump.

  • Publication number: 20130140032
Abstract: The rod guide and solids control assembly can be mounted on a rod string. The assembly can allow well fluid that contains high solids to pass through the pump under normal operation while eliminating the solids from being swept back into the pump barrel. The assembly can include a body portion coupled to a bristle that extends helically around the body portion. The body portion can be placed on a pump valve rod or hollow valve rod. On an upstroke, the bristles can be locked into place for trapping and lifting the solids. On a downstroke, the bristles can be rotated for leaving the solids higher and away from a pump intake. This can allow the solids to be lifted out of the pump and thereby prevent solids from collecting on a bottom portion of the pump. Multiple assemblies can be incorporated into the sucker rod string.

  • Patent number: 8454331
Abstract: A plate pump assembly for pumping various fluids including heavy crude. The plate pump assembly includes first and second chambers each having lower and upper valves. Primary upper and lower eccentric cams within the plate pump assembly are connected to an upper plate and a lower plate. A secondary eccentric cam is connected to a piston that separates the first and second chambers. A drive shaft of the assembly rotates the primary upper and lower eccentric cams to actuate the upper and lower plates alternately concealing and revealing the lower and upper valves for the first and second chambers. The drive shaft further rotates the secondary eccentric cam to actuate the piston alternately decreasing and increasing an area of the first and second chambers to receive fluids through the lower valves and compress the area within the first and second chambers to push the fluids through the upper valves.

  • Patent number: 8360756
Abstract: A valve rod guide is adapted to be coupled to the barrel of a subsurface pump or the like. The guide has head, neck, body, and base regions. A plurality of angled flutes are provided on the body, tapering downwardly for preventing solids from reentering the pump barrel after pump operations are ceased and thereby damaging pump components once pump operations are resumed. The interior diameter of the neck includes lower and upper grooves and a plurality of spiral radial grooves extending therebetween. The spiral radial grooves terminate at exit ports. During pump operations, solids are wiped from the valve rod, drawn into the spiral radial grooves, and accumulate in the lower or upper groove during downstroke or upstroke, respectively. During upstroke, the solids are expelled through the exit ports. A hardened insert may be positioned in the head region, providing a durable wear area for the valve rod as well as a tight fit, thereby preventing solids from escaping through a northern end of the guide.

  • Patent number: 8359890
Abstract: A light fence represented by aligned apertures in a plurality of wheels permits the passage of a light beam to a sensor to activate an electro-mechanical control for a lock. Such an arrangement avoids the sound-producing mechanical action of the typical tumbler lock and safeguards discovery of the opening combination. Rather than the typical case of a numerical sequencing combination, a novel approach is taken by using visual pattern recognition to align the apertures. The electro-mechanical control of the present invention additionally features optimized energy use, customizable settings, precision positioning, and an expansion of possible combination permutations by including direction of rotation.

  • Patent number: 8360153
Abstract: A debris-catching attachment device and method therefor is disclosed. When positioned in wellbore tubing, the device collects solid impurities found in well environments, thereby preventing the solids from settling onto the pump and its components when pumping operations are halted. The device comprises a ring having one of a plurality of brushes and a plurality of wiper segments coupled to a surface of the ring. As fluid is being forced naturally upward or is pumped, it flows past the components of the ring and is caused to rotate or spin in a cyclonic motion. During the first phase of well production, this directs the fluid and solids toward the tubing wall, allowing gas to escape upward. During the second phase of production, solids are caused to move toward the wall of the tubing, allowing any water and oil to move upward to the surface, with the surface tension dragging the solids along the wall of the tubing. The solids may accumulate on the brushes or wiper segments when pumping operations are halted.

  • Patent number: 8276676
Abstract: Embodiments of the hybrid tool string include coiled tubing and jointed tubing, as well as a means typically located at the connection of the coiled and jointed tubing for sealing the fluid flowpath through the bore of the hybrid tool string. Embodiments of the hybrid tool string may use a pressure-activated valve tool attached in series between the coiled tubing and the jointed tubing, which allows for sealing of the bore by application of pressure. Embodiments of the pressure-activated valve tool may use a flapper in conjunction with a sleeve to seal the bore. The novel hybrid tool string may be used to service a well.

  • Publication number: 20120146764
Abstract: The present invention presents a novel security access device, wherein finger movements define a validation code to unlock entryway access in a system comprising an electronic controller directing a servomechanism. Security is enhanced by the finger movements, which are rendered virtually undetectable to an observer, and by the mathematical augmentation of the number of choices for code selection. Alternative embodiments present both a novel system and a novel method for validating access.
