Abstract: A scissor lift mechanism (1) having at least two scissor elements (4, 5) connected in pairs by a swivel axis (3). The drive (11) for raising and lowering the scissor elements (4, 5) is provided by a traction member (13). To reduce the driving power required for operation while at the same time reducing control complexity, the scissor lift mechanism (1) is equipped with two coupling bridges (14, 15) situated on opposite sides of the swivel axis (3) and pivotably supported by thrust struts (22, 23) on each of the two scissor elements (4, 5), respectively. The distance “a” between the coupling bridges (14, 15) and the resulting height of lift “h” are easily variable by applying a tractive force “F” via the traction member (13, 25) which is guided around reversing rollers (16) and back and forth along a plurality of generally parallel paths (18, 19, 20, 21) between the two coupling bridges (14, 15).

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for displaying map information on a computing device. Data are stored for rendering a simulation of travel along one or more road segments prior to embarking on travel along the road segments. The simulation is comprised of a sequence of views of the road network along each road segment from vantage points above or along the road network. Each road segment may be part of a calculated route and the simulation may include views for all the road segments contained in the calculated route. While the computing device is being conveyed along each road segment, the data stored for the simulation is used to show a view of the road network that includes the current position of the computing device on a display of the computing device.

Abstract: A method for operating a navigation system that executes a navigation application software program to provide a navigation-related feature is provided. The method comprises identifying that the navigation application software program uses both updated geographic data and un-updated geographic data from a geographic database associated with said navigation system. The un-updated geographic data has an associated date or version different from the updated geographic data. The method further comprises providing a report indicating that an inconsistency between the updated geographic data and the un-updated geographic data may exist. The method may further include identifying the inconsistency between the updated geographic data and the un-updated geographic data.

Abstract: The waterwheel powered air delivery device is a system for powering an air compressor, aerator, or other device that moves air from power produced by a waterwheel without the necessity of providing electricity from an outside power source or the intermediate production of electricity from the waterwheel. The waterwheel may be an overshot, undershot or sideshot waterwheel. The device being powered may be an air compressor, aerator, or other air delivery device having an air pump that may be of the diaphragm, piston, rotary vane, rotary screw or other type. Preferably the air produced by the waterwheel and air delivery device is used for aeration of wastewater, although the delivery device may be used for other purposes, e.g., ventilation, power, etc.

The strap tension retaining device includes a fixed base element, fixed relative to the bulk unit load, a floating element movable relative to the fixed base element, a biasing element mounted between the floating element and the fixed base element and a guide element mounting the floating element to the fixed base element to guide movement of the floating element relative to the fixed base element. The strap tension retaining device is positioned at about the corner of the bulk unit load with the strap positioned around the bulk unit perimeter of the bulk unit load, over the strap tension retaining device floating element. When the strap is tensioned a force is exerted by the strap on the floating element to force the biasing element against the bias direction.

A series of slats are positioned in the trough to interrupt the flow and induce mixing and aeration. An array of aeration edges is removably installed over the slats. A holder for containing chemical treatment matter therein is positioned adjacent each slat. The aeration edges consist of upper and lower plates stacked one on top of the other. Each plate is provided with horizontally fingers extending in a direction downstream relative to the flow direction of the treated water. Abstract: Systems are provided for converting high definition pictures or data to lower definition images using wavelet transforms. In the preferred embodiments, the wavelet transforms are be used in either the transmission/coding or reception/decoding phase for enabling a more efficient conversion of the signal and providing a more robust and accurate output. Image data encoded with a discrete cosine transform (DCT) is decoded using an inverse wavelet transform (IDWT). A fast inverse discrete wavelet transform (FIDWT) is also provided that reduces the number of multiplication operations relative to the IDWT. Image data is also encoded using a discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and then decoded using an (IDWT).

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for processing a high definition image using both an inverse discrete cosine transform (IDCT) and an inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT) to provide a relatively lower definition image is provided. Image data encoded with a discrete cosine transform (DCT) is decoded using both an IDCT and an IDWT to generate IDCT processed image data and IDWT reduced image data. The IDCT processed image data and the IDWT reduced image data are combined to generate reduced image data that has a relatively lower definition than the image data and a relatively higher definition than the IDWT reduced image data.
