  • Publication number: 20160262569
Abstract: A grilling insert is adapted for use in a barbecue grill having a recessed cooking chamber. The grilling insert comprises a double-wall thermal barrier and a radiant heat chamber. The double-wall thermal barrier is adapted for extending across the recessed cooking chamber of the barbecue grill, and for dividing the cooking chamber into direct-heating and indirect-heating cooking sections. The radiant heat chamber is formed adjacent the double-wall thermal barrier, and is designed for holding loose combustible material within the direct-heating cooking section of the barbecue grill. The cooking temperature in the direct-heating cooking section is relatively high, and is reduced in the indirect-heating cooking section by the double-wall thermal barrier.

  • Publication number: 20160210783
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for capturing views of a mixed reality environment from various perspectives which can be displayed on a monitor. The system includes one or more physical cameras at user-defined positions within the mixed reality environment. The system renders virtual objects in the mixed reality environment from the perspective of the one or more cameras. Real and virtual objects from the mixed reality environment may then be displayed from the perspective of the one or more cameras on one or more external, 2D monitor for viewing by others.

  • Publication number: 20160193703
Abstract: Method of manufacture, comprising forming a heat-transfer structure. Forming the heat-transfer structure includes forming a metallic planar substrate having a front surface and a back surface, the back surface being opposite the front surface. Forming the heat-transfer structure also includes forming an array of metallic raised features located directly on each of the front and back surfaces. Respective portions of the raised features are configured to be mechanically bend or buckle plastically deformable via a compressive force applied between a first substrate and a second substrate.

  • Publication number: 20160160436
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a superhydrophobic surface. Methods of fabrication are disclosed including laminating an optically transparent polymer sheet with hydrophobic nanoparticles such that the nanoparticles are partially embedded and partially exposed. The resulting assembly remains optically transparent. Additional methods include the lamination of nanoparticles to flexible fabrics and the production of molded articles using nanoparticle-treated molds.

  • Patent number: 9359056
Abstract: A foot-operated propulsion system for small watercraft, such as kayaks. The propulsion system includes a pedal assembly that controls motion of a fluke fin that is submerged beneath the waters surface. The pedal assembly is located in the bow of the watercraft and the paddler works the pedals with his feet. Operating the pedal assembly causes a force to be transmitted to a drive unit located in the stern of the craft, which then controls movement of linkages in the fluke assembly, to force the submerged fluke fin to swing upward and downward, emulating the motion of flukes on a whale, and thereby propelling the watercraft along the surface of the water.

  • Patent number: 9308571
Abstract: An apparatus comprising a first substrate having a first surface, a second substrate having a second surface facing the first surface and an array of metallic raised features being in contact with the first surface to the second surface, a portion of the raised features having a mechanical bend or buckle plastic deformation produced therein via a compressive force. One or more of the metallic raised features has one or more surface singularities therein prior to the mechanical bend or the buckle plastic deformation produced by the compressive force.
