  • Patent number: 8157531
Abstract: A closing assembly for closing the gap remaining between the first and last blade of a blade ring that is inserted into a peripheral groove of turbomachinery is provided. The assembly includes at least two parts each of which can be hooked onto projections that form an undercut in the peripheral groove and includes a securing element, which secures the parts from becoming detached from the peripheral groove. For closing the remaining gap, the securing element is mounted to rotate about its longitudinal axis between the two parts and has a key head and a web. The web can be positioned by rotation is such a way that to fit the parts in the peripheral groove. The parts can be displaced in relation to one another and to secure the parts from being detached from the groove. The web can be placed against at least one lateral face of one of the parts.

  • Patent number: 8111727
Abstract: Semiconductor laser diodes, particularly broad area single emitter (BASE) laser diodes of high light output power, are commonly used in opto-electronics. Light output power and stability of such laser diodes are of crucial interest and any degradation during normal use is a significant disadvantage. The present invention concerns an improved design of such laser diodes, the improvement in particular significantly minimizing or avoiding degradation of such laser diodes at very high light output powers by controlling the current flow in the laser diode in a defined way. The minimization or avoidance of (front) end section degradation of such laser diodes significantly increases long-term stability compared to prior art designs. This is achieved by controlling the carrier injection into the laser diode in the vicinity of its facets in such a way that abrupt injection current peaks are avoided.

  • Patent number: 7974880
Abstract: A system for updating advertisement bids including a query engine and an advertisement selection engine. The query engine provides an advertisement query to the advertisement selection engine. The advertisement selection engine includes a query processing module that retrieves advertisements associated with the advertisement query based on bids. The bid update module generates a suggested bid for an advertiser. The bid update module may be configured to automatically update the current bid for an advertisement based on the suggested bid. Further, the bid update module may be configured to determine the suggested bid by calculating a maximum profit position for the advertisement and projecting an envy free point for the maximum profit position.

The present invention concerns an improved design of such laser diodes, the improvement in particular significantly minimizing or avoiding (front) end section degradation at very high light output powers by controlling the current flow in the laser diode in a defined way. This is achieved by controlling the carrier injection, i.e. the injection current, into the laser diode in a novel way by creating single current injection points along the laser diode's longitudinal extension, e.g. along the waveguide. Further, the supply current/voltage of each single or group of current injection point(s) may be separately regulated, further enhancing controllability of the carrier injection.
