  • Publication number: 20120054122
Abstract: Methods and systems for rendering a shipping label, including an indicium that evidences payment for delivery, for a mail piece using a mailing machine and remote web server. Parameter information for a mail piece are input to a mailing machine, which determines the fees required for delivery of the mail piece. The mailing machine generates indicium data based on the determined fee with appropriate security measures, which is sent from the mailing machine to a remote web server operated by the carrier. The web server renders a shipping label, including all information required by the carrier, along with the indicium data, in a printable format. The data for the shipping label is sent to the mailing machine. Accounting registers maintained in the mailing machine are debited for the determined fees, and a shipping label is printed using a printing device associated with the mailing machine.

  • Patent number: 7217064
Abstract: A method for controlling deformation of a cut end region of an erected arch-type structure for use in underpass construction and the like where the cut end region has at least one extended leg portion. The method comprises building progressively at least one layer of mechanically-stabilized earth adjacent the extended leg portion by alternately layering a plurality of compacted layers of fill with interposed layers of reinforcement. Each layer of reinforcement is secured to the extended leg portion during the progressive building. The securement of the layers of reinforcement to the extended leg portions provide support in controlling deformation of the cut end region during backfilling and regular service.

  • Patent number: 6865560
Abstract: A method and system for providing a delivery confirmation service to a mailer who uses a postage meter to pay the postage for mailing a mail piece. The mailer applies a shipping label containing an identification number on the mail piece to identify the mail piece and the mailer. The identification number is retrieved by the postage meter which sends the identification number to a data processing center or a meter refill data center for processing. Upon receiving the identification number, the data processing center sends a shipping file to the carrier. When the mail piece is delivered, a message regarding the delivery status of the mail piece is sent to the carrier by the mail deliverer. With the shipping file and the delivery status message, the carrier makes available the delivery status of the mail piece to the data processing center which stores the delivery status. Upon request, the data processing center communicates at least a portion of the delivery status to the mailer via a meter refill system.

  • Patent number: 6695877
Abstract: A bifurcated stent comprises a first stent section and a second stent section. Each stent section is expandable from a predeployed state to a deployed state independently from one another. The second stent section having an end engaged to a receiving region of the first stent section. In the deployed state the first stent section defines a primary flow path and the second stent section defines a secondary flow path in fluid communication with the first flow path. At least a portion of one or both the first stent section and second stent section is constructed from a wire member.

  • Patent number: 6650739
Abstract: This invention overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art by providing automated personal messaging assistance with the capability of checking a user's destination for arrival and forwarding messages by a preferred modality. The present invention is directed to, in a general aspect, a method of providing personal messaging using a virtual messaging assistant. The virtual messaging assistant has a voice user interface and provides a human-like voice which interfaces with the user' and with callers. The personal messaging assistant provides forwarding of messages to a destination in accordance with user selected preferences. The personal messaging assistant receives incoming messages. The personal messaging checks the user's calendar to find out where the user is expected to be. Then the personal messaging assistant calls the expected destination and inquires whether the user has arrived.
