Publication number: 20100003797Abstract: Transistors are formed using pitch multiplication. Each transistor includes a source region and a drain region connected by strips of active area material separated by shallow trench isolaton structures. The shallow trench isolaton structures are formed by dielectric material filling trenches that are formed by pitch multiplication. During pitch multiplication, rows of spaced-apart mandrels are formed and spacer material is blanket deposited over the mandrels. The spacer material is etched to define spacers on sidewalls of the mandrels and the mandrels are subsequently removed, thereby leaving free-standing spacers. The spacers constitute a mask, through which an underlying substrate is etched to form the trenches and strips of active area material. The trenches are filled to form the shallow trench isolaton structures. The substrate is doped to form source, drain and channel regions and a gate is formed over the channel region.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 3, 2008Publication date: January 7, 2010Applicant: MICRON TECHNOLOGY, INC.Inventor: Mike Smith

Patent number: 7641358Abstract: A portable rechargeable lantern capable of use in an explosive environment includes light emitting diode light source, fault tolerant circuitry, a rechargeable battery and a charging circuit that receives power from an external charger via an induction coil. Formed within a sealed housing, the induction coil charging system eliminates external metal contacts, thereby eliminating a potential ignition source during charging operations. Fault tolerant circuitry and a cool-running light emitting diode light source eliminate potential ignition sources due to breakage or fault conditions. Mating surfaces between the lantern and its charger cradle facilitate aligning the charging induction coils.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2007Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Assignee: Sunlite Safety Products, LLCInventors: Mike Smith, Randy Goodman, Kevin Kelly, Marty Brundage, Bret Kline

Patent number: 7628344Abstract: A fuel injector assembly for an emissions-based EMD 710 locomotive dieselengine. The fuel injector assembly includes a needle slidably positioned within a bore of a valve body of the injector assembly, where fuel pressure introduced into a bore chamber causes the needle to open a spray tip. A spring mounted within the bore forces the needle to close the spray tip when the fuel is not being applied. The spring is a dead coil spring including inactive coils where at least portions of the coils at both ends of the spring are in intimate contact with each other so as to reduce spring wear during operation of the assembly. Because the dead coil spring has reduced wear, the VOP set point of the fuel injector assembly can be reduced, which reduces NOx emissions.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2005Date of Patent: December 8, 2009Assignee: Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc.Inventors: Budhadeb Mahakul, Brent J. Valesano, Gary L. Cowden, Mike Smith

Patent number: 7607000Abstract: A method for accelerating an operating system boot process is disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, during a first operating system boot, information regarding the physical locations of disk access performed by the operating system to complete the boot are recorded and stored in a control data file. The control data file is used during a second operating system boot to predict which data will be required during the second operating system, and to populate a cache with that data. The cache can then be used to improve the second operating system boot to improve the boot time. In one embodiment, the information is independent of a file system of the operating system. In another embodiment, the cache can be populated by copying data from a mass storage device to a cache, and when the data is used, it can be moved from the cache to another cache.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2003Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Mike Smith, Joseph Sokol, Jr.

Patent number: 7441996Abstract: A vehicle floating nut assembly is part of a body mounting fixture that couples a vehicle body onto a vehicle frame. The floating nut assembly has a nut element that floats with in a nut retainer assembly. At least one of the sliding surfaces located between the nut element and the retainer assembly is coated with a coating resistant material such as polytetrafluoroethylene. Thus, the nut retainer assembly is arranged so that the nut element is slideable relative to the planar surface of the retainer assembly within a predetermined range of movement. Several floating nut assemblies are utilized to fixedly couple the vehicle body to the vehicle frame in which one of the vehicle floating nut assemblies includes is arranged to only allow limited movement of the nut element in one linear direction.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2003Date of Patent: October 28, 2008Assignee: Nissan Technical Center North America, Inc.Inventors: Mark Odulio, Mike Smith, Youichi Yamamoto

Publication number: 20080249603Abstract: Devices and methods for performing a procedure within a spine are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method includes expanding an expandable member to move a tissue portion and form a cavity within an interior of a bone-related structure. At least a portion of the cavity is filled with a filler material while simultaneously withdrawing a medium from the expandable member at a predefined ratio such that the tissue portion substantially maintains its moved position. In some embodiments, the predefined ratio is 1:1. In another embodiment, a method includes expanding an expandable member to move a tissue portion and form a cavity within an interior of an intervertebral disc. At least a portion of the cavity is filled with a filler material while substantially maintaining the moved position of the tissue portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2007Publication date: October 9, 2008Inventors: Jeffrey D.
