  • Patent number: 6130486
Abstract: An engine operated generator is arranged to constantly respond to a change in the load with a margin of power. The output current of the generator 1 driven by an engine 2 is rectified by a converter 3 composed of a thyristor bridge structure. A direct current released from the converter 3 is converted by an inverter 4 to an alternate current at a commercial frequency and connected to a load 5. A thyristor driver circuit 9 controls the conduction of thyristors so that the voltage at the input of the inverter 4 is constant. A fuel flow controller 10 detects the conduction angle of the thyristors and the revolution of the engine 2 is controlled so that the conduction angle is converged on a target conduction angle. Since the target conduction angle is set within a predetermined range smaller than the maximum conduction angle, the generator is maintained with margins of its output and can thus provide a stable level of voltage and respond quickly to a change in the load.

  • Patent number: 6091172
Abstract: An outer rotor-type multi-pole generator includes a plurality of coils wound around a large number of protruding poles provided around an outer periphery of a stator core through a bobbin, and terminal members fitted into fitting tube portions integrally provided on the bobbin to pass through the stator core over opposite ends of the stator core. Each of the coils is connected to one end of the terminal member. Each of the terminal members includes a flat plate-shaped base portion fitted into the fitting tube portion and a clamping plate portion protruding sideways from one end of the base portion. The end of the coil is connected to the one end of the terminal member by fusing with the clamping plate portion being folded in such a manner that the end of the coil is clamped between the clamping plate portion and one end of the base portion. Thus, the operation for connecting the coils to the terminal members is facilitated, and the number of steps of the connecting operation is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5886893
Abstract: A portable power unit has a magneto generator having three-phase output windings. A synchronizing signal is formed in synchronism with an output frequency of the magneto generator. A pair of variable control bridge circuits are connected to the three-phase output windings and connected in antiparallel connection to each other to form a cycloconverter for generating a single-phase alternating current having a desired frequency to be supplied to a load. A bridge drive circuit is responsive to the synchronizing signal from the synchronizing signal-forming circuit, for causing the pair of variable control bridge circuits to be alternately switched to operate every half a repetition period of the single-phase alternating current, to thereby cause the cycloconverter to generate the single-phase alternating current. An output voltage-detecting circuit detects an output voltage of the pair of variable control bridge circuits.

  • Patent number: 5615655
Abstract: A control system for an internal combustion engine having a pressurized gaseous fuel source, a control valve for regulating the amount of gaseous fuel supplied from the pressurized gaseous fuel source, and an intake passage in which the gaseous fuel, the amount of which has been regulated by the control valve, is mixed with intake air and supplied to the engine as an air-fuel mixture. An ECU of the control system controls the air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture to be supplied to the engine by regulating the amount of the gaseous fuel through the control valve, and various sensors detect operating conditions of the engine. The ignition timing of the engine is calculated based on the detected operating conditions, and when the air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture is in a predetermined lean limit region, the output of the engine is controlled by correcting the ignition timing.

  • Patent number: 5444592
Abstract: A portable power unit has a protective circuit for cutting off an output current from the power unit when the power unit is in an overload state. An amount of the output current is detected. An output voltage from the power unit is reduced when the amount of the output current detected reaches a first threshold value, thereby preventing the protective circuit from undesirably operating for one power unit when it is connected for another for parallel operation. When the amount of the output current decreases to a second threshold value which is smaller than the first threshold value, with the power unit being in a state in which the output voltage is reduced, the voltage-reducing operation is canceled.

  • Patent number: 5426578
Abstract: An invertor-controlled generator unit is connectible with at least one other generator for parallel operation. The invertor-controlled generator has an invertor circuit which performs switching operation to convert a direct current power into an alternating current power based on a reference sinusoidal signal. Voltage and current of the alternating current power from the invertor circuit are detected. A difference in phase between the detected voltage and current is detected, and a signal indicative of the phase difference is formed. A reference pulse signal is formed in response to the signal indicative of the phase difference for varying the frequency of the signal indicative of the target output waveform in a manner such that the phase difference is decreased.

  • Patent number: 5416692
Abstract: An invertor-controlled power unit includes an invertor circuit which performs switching control of direct current output from a direct current power source circuit in response to a driving signal. A bridge balanced circuit is connected to a pair of output lines extending from an output circuit of the power unit. The bridge balanced circuit has at least two balanced points and comprises a plurality of impedance elements connected to the pair of output lines. One of the balanced points is grounded. A potential difference between the one of the balanced points and another of same is detected, and a detection signal indicative of the potential difference is produced. When the detection signal falls outside a predetermined range, i.e. it is determined that a leak occurs, a stoppage instruction signal is produced to stop the supply of the driving signal to the invertor circuit.

  • Patent number: 5400236
Abstract: An invertor-controlled power unit includes a direct current power source circuit, an invertor circuit, and a pair of output lines. A waveform of voltage appearing between the output lines is detected. There is generated a target output waveform signal having a predetermined frequency. The target output waveform signal is converted into a control signal, which is then supplied to the invertor circuit. The invertor circuit effects switching control of an output from the direct current power source circuit in response to the control signal. There is detected an overvoltage state of the direct current power source circuit. The generation or supply of the control signal is inhibited while there is detected the overvoltage state of the direct current power source circuit. The control signal starts to be supplied again to the invertor circuit at a timing at which the detected waveform of the voltage between the output lines crosses a substantially zero volt level.

  • Patent number: 5309345
Abstract: An invertor device for an AC power unit. In one form of the invention, a sine wave signal having a predetermined frequency is superposed on a triangular wave signal having a frequency higher than the predetermined frequency to form a superposed signal. A pulse width modulating circuit having a predetermined fixed threshold level amplifies the superposed signal with reference to the predetermined fixed threshold level to generate a pulse width modulalted signal. A switching device performs switching control of an output from a DC power source circuit based on the pulse width modulated signal to output an AC power having the predetermined frequency via an output circuit. In another form of the invention, a difference between waveforms of output AC voltages appearing at output terminals of the output circuit is detected to generate a signal representing the difference.

  • Patent number: 5258700
Abstract: A portable generator capable of automatically adapting itself to parallel operation of a plurality of generators including the present generator. A voltage detector and a current detector generate a voltage signal and a current signal respectively indicative of detected voltage and current of an AC output from the portable generator. A phase difference detector generates a signal indicative of a phase difference between the detected voltage and current. An oscillator has its output frequency controlled by the signal indicative of the phase difference. A target output waveform signal in the form of a sine wave signal is formed, which has a frequency corresponding to the output frequency of the oscillator. The target output waveform signal and the voltage signal are mixed at a variable ratio. At the start of the generator, the voltage signal takes precedence over the target output waveform signal to thereby cause an invertor circuit to effect switching control based on the voltage signal.

  • Patent number: 5239253
Abstract: A portable engine generator includes an overcurrent detector which detects load current to determine whether the engine is in an overcurrent state. A voltage detector detects output voltage from the engine generator. A timer circuit starts to operate when the overcurrent state is detected by the overcurrent detector and continues to operate while the overcurrent state continues to be detected. The timer circuit starts to output a signal for interrupting the supply of output power when a predetermined time period has elapsed after the start of operation thereof. The predetermined time period is set to a shorter time period as the output voltage detected by the voltage detector assumes a lower value.
