  • Patent number: 9334229
Abstract: Hydroxytyrosol derivative compositions, methods for their manufacture, and their use in personal care products are disclosed. Lipophilic hydroxytyrosol carbonate ester compound can be made by oxidizing a substituted hydroxybenzaldehyde compound with an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide under mild conditions. The process involves enzymatic esterification of 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)phenol to form the corresponding ester, the introduction of a formyl group ortho to the phenolic hydroxyl group of the ester to form a lipophilic formyltyrosol ester; oxidation of the lipophilic formyltyrosol ester with a peroxide compound to form a lipophilic hydroxytyrosol ester compound; and reaction of lipophilic hydroxytyrosol ester compound with carbonic acid ester derivatives to form a lipophilic hydroxytyrosol carbonic ester compound. These compounds are useful is a wide variety of personal care compositions as anti-aging compounds that are stable against oxidation.

  • Patent number: 8613940
Abstract: Carbonates of anti-aging ingredients, in particular anti-oxidants and skin illuminating phenol ingredients, have been prepared as derivatives of these ingredients with enhanced physical properties. It has been demonstrated that these carbonates will hydrolyze under enzymatic catalysis to release the parent ingredient. In contrast, esters of the phenolic groups in many cases do not hydrolyze under the same conditions.

  • Publication number: 20130326563
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a companion application that allows users to discover secondary content that supplements primary content that the user is enjoying and to run the secondary content within the application. Examples of primary content include, games, television shows, movies, and music. In one embodiment, a companion application runs on both the primary device, which is the device generating the primary content, and on the companion device. The companion application helps the user discover available secondary content. In addition to discovering secondary content that may be relevant to the user, the companion application includes an application-run environment in which secondary content applications may run.
