  • Publication number: 20160361755
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of fastening a rivet element to a workpiece which has a preshaped hole provided for the reception of a rivet section of the rivet element and which is made planar at least in the region around the preshaped hole. Prior to the fastening process, the workpiece is positioned at a well-defined spacing from a contact surface of a die by means of at least one spacer which is fixedly connected to the die for the reshaping of the rivet section during the fastening process, so that a gap is formed between a wall of the hole and a punch of the die, which is provided for the reshaping of the rivet section. The rivet section is introduced into the gap in the course of the fastening process and is reshaped by the punch in order to engage behind the workpiece in the region of the hole.

  • Publication number: 20150125201
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the connection of an upper sheet metal part and a lower sheet metal part of which at least one is formed as an organic sheet metal part with the aid of an auxiliary joining part and an apertured metal washer, wherein the auxiliary joining part has at one end a functional section with an undercut and, at the other end, also a piercing section with a shaft surface and a shaft recess formed therein. The sheet metal parts and the metal washer are brought into a stacked arrangement in such a way that the metal washer contacts the organic sheet metal part. By means of the piercing section slugs are punched out of the stacked sheet metal parts. Either the functional section or the piercing section is passed through an aperture of the metal washer and a pressure is exerted on the metal washer in order to drive washer material into the shaft recess or into the undercut and thereby to join the auxiliary joining part to the metal washer.
