  • Publication number: 20070199916
Abstract: A container for containing a heated liquid and having a longitudinal axis. The container comprises at least one substantially vertically folding vacuum panel portion disposed substantially transversely relative to the longitudinal axis, the vacuum panel portion adapted to compensate for vacuum pressure changes within the container caused by heating or cooling of a liquid contained within the container. The vacuum panel portion comprises an initiator portion and a control portion, with at least a portion of the control portion being more steeply inclined relative to the longitudinal axis than at least a portion of the initiator portion. The initiator portion causes the control portion to flex inwardly into the container. The pressure panel inverts vertically in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis.

  • Publication number: 20070181403
Abstract: A process for efficiently conveying containers along a table-top conveying system includes the steps of temporarily securing a transfer stabilizing support (1a, 1b) to a bottom end of a formed container (14) so that the container can freely move along a production line using the table-top conveying system where the transfer stabilizing support has a bottom surface (2a, 2b) with an opening (4a, 4b), a sidewall (6a, 6b) extending substantially perpendicular to the bottom surface, and a ridge area (10b) surrounding the opening and inside the sidewall of the support; and after the container has gone through operations of the production line, the transfer stabilizing support is removed so that aesthetic qualities of the formed container shape are revealed.

  • Publication number: 20070111709
Abstract: A combination of a radio receiver with a detachable controller that determine sends either reduced or enhanced metadata about received programming to the detachable controller based upon periodic authorization. A connection from the detachable control device to the radio receiver carries commands to the radio receiver and carries only the reduced set of metadata, such as tuned channel and tuned channel name, from the radio receiver to the controller. The controller is authorized by sending a radio identifier from the radio receiver to the control device, determination of an authentication code at the controller and communication of the determined authentication code back to the controller for validation. Upon validation, an enhanced set of metadata, including song title and artist, is sent to the controller. The enhanced metadata, the reduced metadata, or both, are optionally able to be encrypted. The radio receiver periodically performs this authorization processing.

  • Publication number: 20070051073
Abstract: A system for processing a simplified plastic container (C) that is to be filled with a hot product includes the step of blow-molding parison to form a container body, where the container body has a neck, a base, a side surface relatively free of structural geometry that surrounds an interior of the container body and, prior to being filled with the hot product, a projection (12) extending from the container body. After the container body is filled with a hot product in a production line, the neck of the filled container body is capped with a cap and then, the container body is cooled. During the cooling operation, the hot product is contracted so that the projection extending from the container can be pushed (P) into the container body like a traditional push-up so that the resultant, filled and cooled container body is relatively free of structural geometry.

  • Patent number: 7182230
Abstract: A resealable closure system that includes a neck having a finish and a closure. The system includes mechanisms for sealing the container and maintaining the container in a closed position, which may be the same. The system can also include a means for preventing the closure from detaching from the container. The finish has an end that includes a post, an opening and a retaining ring, a recess defined by the retaining ring, and a shoulder. The closure slides onto the neck and has a sleeve that is about the same outside size as the neck. The sleeve has a stop on its interior surface. The top part of the closure has a receptacle to receive the post on the finish.

  • Publication number: 20060255005
Abstract: A plastic container comprises an upper portion including a finish adapted to receive a closure, a lower portion including a base, and a sidewall extending between the upper portion and the lower portion. The upper portion, the lower portion, and the sidewall define an interior volume for storing liquid contents. The plastic container further comprises a pressure panel located on the container and moveable between an initial position and an activated position. The pressure panel is located in the initial position prior to filling the container, and is moved to the activated position after filling and sealing the container. Moving the pressure panel from the initial position to the activated position reduces the internal volume of the container and creates a positive pressure inside the container. The positive pressure reinforces the sidewall. A method of processing a container is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20060144045
Abstract: A control system and method for increasing engine temperature for an engine having a variable nozzle turbo (VNT) is provided. An offset idle module generates an offset idle signal. A normal boost module calculates a normal boost. A supplemental boost module calculates a supplemental boost. An offset boost module generates an offset boost signal for the VNT based on the normal boost and the supplemental boost. A control module adjusts engine idle and VNT boost based on the offset idle signal and the offset boost signal.

  • Publication number: 20060144044
Abstract: An engine system and method for operating an internal combustion engine includes a turbocharger that generates a boost to the engine. A coolant temperature of the engine is determined along with other based engine inputs and calculated values. A normal boost based on operating conditions of the engine is determined. A supplemental boost is determined based on the coolant temperature. An offset boost based on the normal boost and the supplemental boost is determined. An air output of the turbocharger is modified based on the offset boost. The supplemental boost increases combustion efficiency, which reduces white smoke exhaust.

  • Patent number: 7034687
Abstract: An anti-theft surveillance system capable of detecting the presence of tags affixed to merchandise. The tags contain a diode attached to two dipole elements. When the tag receives alow frequency signal and a high frequency signal, it will emit two side bands. The system includes alow frequency transmitter, a high frequency transmitter, and a receiver. The two transmitters place alow frequency signal and a high frequency signal in proximity to the guarded area (typically a store doorway). When a tag is near the doorway, the receiver will receive the upper side band and lower side band. The receiver reduces the frequency of the upper and lower side band signals to form an intermediate frequency upper side band and an intermediate frequency lower side band. These two intermediate frequency signals are then fed into two separate detector circuits. One circuit detects the presence of the intermediate frequency upper side band and the other circuit detects the presence of the intermediate frequency lower side band.

  • Patent number: 6929138
Abstract: A plastic blow molded bottle or wide mouth jar useful in containing hot-filled beverages or food products. The container has a multi-sided sidewall which is capable of accommodating vacuum associated with hot filling, capping and cooling of the container, which is reinforced to resist unwanted deformation, and which enables a label to be aesthetically displayed on the container sidewall. To this end, the sidewall comprises a plurality of panels which include outwardly bowed arcuate sections, as-formed, which flatten to accommodate induced vacuum. Thus, a label can be supported on the sidewall with very few voids, or like sunken areas, behind the label to ensure that the label is prominently displayed on the aesthetically appealing novel container configuration.

  • Publication number: 20050008888
Abstract: A dimensionally-stable, injection-molded portion of a blow molded intermediate article is engaged by a conveyance mechanism of a trimmer to controllably drive the intermediate article within the trimmer to permit accurate and high speed severing of the injection molded portion and moil from a blown finish container body. An injection-molded, closed end preform is provided having a neck finish with an internal and/or external peripheral drive surface. The preform is utilized to form an intermediate article including a container body and moil. The injection-molded neck portion of the intermediate article remains substantially unchanged from its as-manufactured preform condition and provides a dimensionally stable surface for use in driving and rotating the intermediate article within the trimmer.
