  • Patent number: 6814923
Abstract: A dimensionally-stable, injection-molded portion of a blow molded intermediate article is engaged by a conveyance mechanism of a trimmer to controllably drive the intermediate article within the trimmer to permit accurate and high speed severing of the injection molded portion and moil from a blown finish container body. An injection-molded, closed end preform is provided having a neck finish with an internal and/or external peripheral drive surface. The preform is utilized to form an intermediate article including a container body and moil. The injection-molded neck portion of the intermediate article remains substantially unchanged from its as-manufactured preform condition and provides a dimensionally stable surface for use in driving and rotating the intermediate article within the trimmer.

  • Publication number: 20040178231
Abstract: A resealable closure system that includes a neck having a finish and a closure. The system includes mechanisms for sealing the container and maintaining the container in a closed position, which may be the same. The system can also include a means for preventing the closure from detaching from the container. The finish has an end that includes a post, an opening and a retaining ring, a recess defined by the retaining ring, and a shoulder. The closure slides onto the neck and has a sleeve that is about the same outside size as the neck. The sleeve has a stop on its interior surface. The top part of the closure has a receptacle to receive the post on the finish.

  • Publication number: 20040016716
Abstract: A plastic blow molded bottle or wide mouth jar useful in containing hot-filled beverages or food products. The container has a multi-sided sidewall which is capable of accommodating vacuum associated with hot filling, capping and cooling of the container, which is reinforced to resist unwanted deformation, and which enables a label to be aesthetically displayed on the container sidewall. To this end, the sidewall comprises a plurality of panels which include outwardly bowed arcuate sections, as-formed, which flatten to accommodate induced vacuum. Thus, a label can be supported on the sidewall with very few voids, or like sunken areas, behind the label to ensure that the label is prominently displayed on the aesthetically appealing novel container configuration.

  • Patent number: 6273282
Abstract: An ergonomically friendly container having hot-fill capabilities is disclosed. The container has a dome with grip surfaces that undergo controlled deformation for accommodating a portion of the volumetric shrinkage due to hot filling, capping and cooling. Preferably, a major portion of each grip surface is circumscribed by a brow rib which prevents unwanted dome distortion while permitting an amount of controlled vacuum absorption. In addition, the container body is provided with vacuum flex panels of at least two different sizes which enable the grip surfaces to be located close to the center of gravity of a filled container to provide balanced pouring of the contents from the container.

  • Patent number: 5838233
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, an object orientation sensor device, including: a first LC tag disposed at a first selected location in the object; a driver/reader circuit disposed so as to detect the presence of the first LC tag when the object is in a first orientation and to not detect the presence of the first LC tag when the object is not in the first orientation; and the driver/reader circuit being arranged to energize the first LC tag with a magnetic field and to subsequently detect a first resonant frequency echo produced by the first LC tag when the magnetic field is removed.

  • Patent number: 5801619
Abstract: An analog signal processing system and decision logic for controlling airbag deployment includes low pass filter circuitry, differentiation circuitry and integration circuitry operable to receive an analog acceleration signal and provide a differentiated analog bandpass acceleration signal, a reduced bandpass analog acceleration signal, a low pass analog acceleration signal, an analog velocity signal and an analog displacement signal. An interface circuit receives the foregoing analog signals and converts such signals to a number of logic level signals based on comparison with a number of predefined analog threshold signals. A decision logic circuit receives the converted logic level signals and processes such signals to discriminate between severe and non-severe impact events, and control airbag deployment in accordance therewith.

  • Patent number: 5266099
Abstract: Metal and metal alloy preforms having closed cell, spherical porosity are spray formed at high deposition rates by introducing blowing agents into the thixotropic semisolid deposition layer, within which gas formed in thermal decomposition reactions are trapped. Density reductions of nearly 30% were generated in a phosphor bronze matrix, using barium carbonate as the blowing agent. Hollow glass particles were produced in the same matrix alloy by injection of microsphere precursor frit containing sulfur. A simple Newtonian heat transfer model of agent heating in the spray predicts agent/matrix compatibility. Along with modest improvements in damping capacity, tensile and compressive properties were found to be equal or superior to powder metallurgy product at the same porosity levels.

  • Patent number: 5173604
Abstract: A mass spectrometry method in which trapped ions are excited in non-consecutive mass order for detection. The ions can be ejected from the trap in non-consecutive mass order for detection at an external detector, or detected at an in-trap detector in non-consecutive mass order before they leave the trap. In one embodiment, a sequence of supplemental AC voltage signals, each having a frequency matching a resonant frequency of one of the ions to be detected, is applied to a trap to resonate trapped ions in non-consecutive mass order. In another embodiment, the amplitude of the fundamental RF trapping voltage is varied while a sequence of supplemental AC voltage signals is applied to a trap to resonate trapped ions (or cause them to become unstable) in non-consecutive mass order. Another embodiment enables detection of both high mass ions and low mass ions with improved high mass resolution, when the ions are stably trapped in a three-dimensional quadrupole trapped field.
