  • Publication number: 20180337736
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to an optical device including at least one temperature-dependent tunable element for controlling a wavelength of an optical signal, a first temperature control circuit for controlling a temperature of a first region of the optical device; and a second temperature control circuit for controlling a temperature of a second region of the optical device. The second region may include a portion of the first region. The second region may be smaller than the first region. The tunable element may be positioned in the second region such that a temperature of the tunable element is controlled based on the second temperature control circuit controlling the temperature of the second region. The tunable element may be one of (i) a laser for transmitting an outgoing optical signal and (ii) an optical filter coupled to a photodetector for receiving an incoming optical signal.

  • Publication number: 20180337512
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to an optical device including at least one temperature-dependent tunable element for controlling a wavelength of an optical signal, a first sensor configured to indirectly monitor the optical signal, a second sensor configured to directly monitor the optical signal, and a control circuit. The tunable element may be one of (i) a laser for transmitting an outgoing optical signal and (ii) an optical filter coupled to a photodetector for receiving an incoming optical signal. The control circuit may be configured to receive first and second inputs from the first and second sensors, respectively, adjust the tuned wavelength of the tunable element from a first preselected wavelength to a second preselected wavelength based on the first input received from the first sensor, and maintain the tunable element at the second preselected frequency based on the second input received from the second sensor.

  • Publication number: 20180136410
Abstract: A connector assembly includes an adapter, a housing device, a ferrule assembly, and a sensor. The housing device is received by the adapter and has a bore, a front end, and a rear end opposite the front end. A ferrule of the ferrule assembly is within the bore of the housing device and has a mating end extending beyond the front end of the housing device. The sensor is mounted on the rear end of the housing, the rear end of the ferrule assembly, or on the adapter confronting and spaced apart from the housing device or the ferrule assembly. The sensor is configured for detecting a force applied by the housing device or the ferrule assembly, respectively. An electrical characteristic of the sensor changes to indicate a predetermined force has been applied by the housing device or the ferrule assembly, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20170236216
Abstract: A device may generate a transaction network associated with a plurality of accounts. The plurality of accounts may include a set of client accounts associated with a set of clients of an account manager, and a set of non-client accounts associated with a set of non-clients of the account manager. The transaction network may identify transactions among the set of client accounts and the set of non-client accounts. The device may identify, based on the transaction network, a community of accounts including a subset of client accounts for which transactions satisfy a threshold, and a non-client account that has transacted with one of the subset of client accounts. The device may determine target information, associated with the non-client account, including information associated with targeting a non-client, associated with the non-client account, by the account manager. The device may provide the target information and information associated with the community of accounts.

  • Publication number: 20160137317
Abstract: The present invention relates to satellite systems and more particularly, to the provision of a novel, non-geostationary satellite system and method for weather and climate monitoring, communications applications, scientific research and similar tasks, with global coverage. Contrary to the teachings in the art it has been discovered that global coverage may be obtained using a constellation of six satellites in two orthogonal, 24 sidereal hour orbits (geosynchronous) with inclinations of 70° to 90°, and eccentricities of 0.275-0.45. By placing three of the satellites in a first orbit with an apogee over the north pole, and three of the satellites in a second, orthogonal orbit with an apogee over the south pole, global coverage may be obtained. As well, the satellites in these orbits avoid most of the Van Allen Belts.

  • Patent number: 9344182
Abstract: The present invention relates to satellite systems and more particularly, to the provision of a satellite system for weather and climate monitoring, communications applications, and scientific research at higher latitudes, referred to as the circumpolar region and defined here as the area with latitudes greater than 60°, in either the northern hemisphere or the southern hemisphere. Contrary to the teachings in the art it has been discovered that a satellite system and method may be provided using satellites in 24 sidereal hour orbits (geosynchronous) with inclinations (70° to 90°), orbital planes, right ascensions and eccentricities (0.275-0.45) chosen to optimize coverage of a particular service area located at high latitudes. A constellation of two satellites can provide continuous coverage of the circumpolar region. The satellites in this orbit avoid most of the Van Allen Belts.

  • Patent number: 8738439
Abstract: There is disclosed a server and local device that interface for selecting advertisements to be viewed by users of an online service based upon user activity. The local device preferably maintains a targeted activity list of activity identifiers and associated advertisements. The local device monitors the activity on the local device and compares the activity to the identifiers in the targeted activity list. If the activity matches one of the identifiers, the local device plays one or more advertisements.
