  • Publication number: 20180330175
Abstract: A multi-camera vision system and method of monitoring. In one embodiment imaging systems provide object classifications with cameras positioned to receive image data from a field of view to classify an object among multiple classifications. A control unit receives classification or position information of objects and (ii) displays an image corresponding to a classified object relative to the position of the structure. An embodiment of a related method monitors positions of an imaged object about a boundary by continually capturing at least first and second series of image frames, each series comprising different fields of view of a scene about the boundary, with some of the image frames in the first series covering a wide angle field of view and some of the image frames in the second series covering no more than a narrow angle field of view.

  • Publication number: 20180330171
Abstract: Methods for detecting, identifying and displaying object information with a multi-camera vision system. In one embodiment presence of an object is detected in a region extending above a surface and positioned beyond a border, the region including at least first and second zones. A frame of image data is acquired which spans a field of view angle corresponding to a portion of a region from a position along the border. Object detection criteria are applied to analyze and classify an image of an object among a set of object types. A determination is made whether the object is present in the first zone based on application of a first series of scan windows varying in size over a first range of window sizes relative to the size of the image frame, this only permitting detection of images limited in size to a first range of image sizes.

  • Publication number: 20180330527
Abstract: A portable system providing augmented vision of surroundings. In one embodiment the system includes a helmet, a plurality of camera units and circuitry to generate a composite field of view from channels of video data. The helmet permits a user to receive a first field of view in the surroundings based on optical information received directly from the surroundings with the user's natural vision. The camera units are mounted about the helmet to generate the multiple channels of video data. Each camera channel captures a different field of view of a scene in a region surrounding the helmet.

  • Publication number: 20180330526
Abstract: A multi-camera vehicle vision system and method. In one embodiment a map is generated about a moving vehicle. Frames of image data are provided with a series of cameras extending along a surface of the vehicle. The image data frames are processed to identify an object of interest. An object of interest is classified among a set of object types and location of an identified object of interest is determined. Object type and location information is provided to a control unit spaced apart from the cameras via a data link. Road map data is generated to illustrate changes in position of the moving vehicle along a roadway based on data other than the image data provided by the cameras. A display of the road map data is generated with the object type and location information overlaid on the road map data to indicate object location relative to the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 10123003
Abstract: A method for calibrating an image capture device comprises mounting at least one sample device from a batch for movement through a plurality of orientations relative to a horizontal plane. For a given orientation, the sample device is focused at a sequence of positions, each position being at a respective focus distance from the device. A lens actuator setting is recorded for the sample device at each position. This is repeated at a plurality of distinct orientations of the sample device. Respective relationships are determined between lens actuator settings at any given position for distinct orientations from the plurality of distinct orientations and actuator settings at a selected orientation of the plurality of distinct orientations. Lens actuator settings for the image capture device to be calibrated are recorded at least at two points of interest (POI), each a specified focus distance from the device with the image capture device positioned at the selected orientation.

  • Patent number: 10110804
Abstract: A hand-held digital image capture device (digital camera) has a user-selectable mode in which upon engaging the mode the device detects a face in the field of view of the device and generates a face delimiter on a camera display screen, the delimiter surrounding the initial position of the image of a the face on the screen. The device is arranged to indicate thereafter to the user if the device departs from movement along a predetermined concave path P with the optical axis of the device pointing towards the face, such indication being made by movement of the image of the face relative to the delimiter. The camera captures and stores a plurality of images at successive positions along the concave path.

  • Patent number: 10080006
Abstract: A technique of generating a stereoscopic panorama image includes panning a portable camera device, and acquiring multiple image frames. Multiple at least partially overlapping image frames are acquired of portions of the scene. The method involves registering the image frames, including determining displacements of the imaging device between acquisitions of image frames. Multiple panorama images are generated including joining image frames of the scene according to spatial relationships and determining stereoscopic counterpart relationships between the multiple panorama images. The multiple panorama images are processed based on the stereoscopic counterpart relationships to form a stereoscopic panorama image.

  • Patent number: 10032068
Abstract: A method of making an image in a digital camera comprises capturing a digital image of a scene into which the camera user is to be inserted, and superimposing a symbol (subject locator) onto the scene image representing at least a part of a human subject. The subject locator is scaled to a desired size and moved to a desired position relative to the scene image. Next a digital image of the user is captured, and at least the part of the user image represented by the subject locator is extracted. The part of the user image represented by the subject locator is scaled (before or after extraction) to substantially the same size as the subject locator and inserted into the first image at the position of the subject locator. In a second embodiment the method comprises displaying a preview image of a scene into which the camera user is to be inserted, and superimposing the subject locator on the preview image.

  • Publication number: 20180124325
Abstract: A method of generating a digital video image uses a wide-angle field of view (WFOV) lens positioned closely in front of an image sensor array so that the image field of the lens is so curved at the sensor array that different regions of the image field are substantially in focus on the sensor array for different positions of the lens. The method comprises selecting a desired region of interest in the image field of the lens, and adjusting the lens/array distance to bring the region of interest into focus on the sensor array. The in-focus region of interest is stored and at least partially corrected for field-of-view distortion due to the WFOV lens. The corrected image is displayed, locally and/or remotely. These steps are cyclically repeated to provide the video image.

  • Publication number: 20180027224
Abstract: A method for improving accuracy of depth map information derived from image data descriptive of a scene. In one embodiment Mutual Feature Map data are created based on initial disparity map data values and the image data descriptive of the scene. The Mutual Feature Map data are applied to create a series of weighting functions representing structural details that can be transferred to the first disparity values to restore degraded features or replace some of the first disparity values with values more representative of structural features present in the image data descriptive of the scene.
