  • Patent number: 8158341
Abstract: A method is provided for identifying viral positive biological fluid donations in the fewest number of test cycles. The method comprises providing biological fluid donations and defining an n-dimensional matrix comprising a multiplicity of elements, each element being identified by a matrix notation comprising an index for each dimension of the array. Samples are taken from each fluid donation and mapped to a matrix element with each sample identified by its corresponding element's notation; n aliquots being taken from each sample and subpools formed from the aliquots with each subpool containing an aliquot from all samples mapped to elements in which one of the dimensional indices is fixed. Subpools are tested for viral indication and the dimensional index of each subpool that returns a positive viral indication is determined. The dimensional indices are combined to identify a subset of matrix elements that contain a viral positive sample.

  • Publication number: 20110264397
Abstract: A method for characterizing a yarn moved along its longitudinal direction. Readings of a characteristic of the yarn along the longitudinal direction of the yarn are detected. Values of a yarn parameter are determined from the readings. An event field is provided, which contains a quadrant of a two-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system, whose abscissa defines an extension of yarn parameter values in the longitudinal direction and whose ordinate defines a deviation of the yarn parameter from a desired value. Densities of events in the event field are determined from the values of the yarn parameter and their extensions in the longitudinal direction. A yarn body is represented as an area in the event field. The area on the one hand is delimited by the abscissa, on the other hand by the ordinate and further by a line in the event field that substantially follows a constant event density. The representation of the yarn body permits a clearing limit to be defined in a rapid and rational manner.

  • Publication number: 20090263788
Abstract: Systems, processes, and devices are provided which are useful for testing blood or plasma donations to detect those specific donations which are contaminated by a virus above a predetermined level. Samples are formed into pools which are subsequently tested for virus contamination by a high-sensitivity test such as PCR. The pools are tested in accordance with an algorithm by which a sample from each donation is mapped to each element of an N-dimensional matrix or grid. Each element of the matrix is identified by a matrix identifier, Xrcs, where rcs defines the dimensional index. An aliquot is taken from each sample, and subpools are formed, each subpool comprising aliquots of samples in which one dimensional index is fixed. All of the subpools are tested in one PCR test cycle.

  • Publication number: 20080111563
Abstract: The device for examining a solid, elongate product to be tested contains a measurement capacitor with a measurement part-electrode and guard electrodes electrically insulated therefrom. The device further comprises means for applying an alternating voltage to the measurement capacitor for the purpose of generating an alternating electrical field in the measurement capacitor. The guard electrodes are set up for active guarding, in that, with regard to the alternating voltage, they are kept at the same potential as the measurement part-electrode. Differently thick products to be tested may be tested with one and the same measurement head thanks to the active guarding. The signal noise is reduced, the output signal is largely independent of the position of the product to be tested in the transverse direction, and the measurement head has small geometric dimensions.

  • Patent number: 7276153
Abstract: In a process for deacidifying a fluid hydrocarbon stream which comprises carbon dioxide (CO2) and/or other acid gases as impurities, the fluid stream is brought into intimate contact with an absorption liquid in an absorption or extraction zone (12), the substantially purified fluid stream and the absorption liquid which is loaded with CO2 and/or other acid gases are separated from one another, and the absorption liquid is subsequently regenerated and then again fed to the absorption extraction zone (12). To regenerate the absorption liquid, the loaded absorption liquid is first expanded in a first low-pressure expansion stage (22) to a pressure of from 1 to 2 bar (absolute). The partially regenerated absorption liquid is then heated in a heat exchanger (20) and then, in a second low-pressure expansion stage (29), again expanded to a pressure of from 1 to 2 bar (absolute).
