  • Patent number: 7864354
Abstract: A system and method for controlled monitoring of pending document processing operations is provided. Each document processing request received by a document processing device is assigned a job name, which is then encrypted using a random static encryption key, resulting in a job identification. A user then logs onto the document processing device to view pending jobs, which are displayed to the user by only job identification. Those jobs with which the user is associated are then decrypted by the document processing device, allowing the user to view job information including status and file name. The user is thereby also able to modify or delete those pending jobs with which the user is associated. Once the job queue is empty, the random static encryption key is deleted and a new key is generated when a document processing request is received into the empty queue.

  • Patent number: 7812985
Abstract: A system and method for selective rerouting of document processing jobs is provided. A printer driver first converts electronic document data is into a device compatible format and assigned a unique document ID. The printer driver then determines a set of network devices, such as document processing devices, that are participating in the performance of received document processing jobs. The converted document data is then divided into portions and one or more portions are then sent to each of the participating network devices. One of the devices is then selected as the output device, whereupon the output device broadcasts/multicasts a request for processed data portions from each of the other network devices. The received portions are then recombined, and released for further processing in accordance with the received document processing job.

  • Publication number: 20080066884
Abstract: A web making machine is monitored to identify at least one cross-machine direction (CD) actuator that is developing local mapping problems. The identified CD actuator and a segment of surrounding actuators are probed to determine a performance curve for the actuator. The center of an insensitivity region of the performance curve is selected as an optimal mapping alignment setting for the identified actuator with the setting for the actuator being updated. Global smoothing may also be accomplished by probing a global smoothness factor to generate a corresponding performance curve that is then similarly used to select an optimal value for the smoothness factor.

  • Publication number: 20070283166
Abstract: A system and method for state transition intrusion detection is provided. The system and method employ a state transition file, containing a listing or table of all available state transitions associated with a given operation. A log file is then generated using state transition data gathered during the performance of a given operation. Depending upon the instructions present in the state transition file, one or more state transitions in the log file are digitally signed. To determine if an intrusion has occurred, the log file is analyzed, state transition by state transition. This analysis is accomplished by comparing the signatures associated with the state transitions in the log file with those signatures contained in the state transition file, thereby detecting any erroneous signatures. Each operation capable of being performed is accounted for in the state transition file such that all available state transitions associated with the operation are stored in the file.

  • Publication number: 20070208915
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for the secure and correct deletion of data files from a data storage that bypasses the file system of an operating system. A secure erase service receives a request from a system interceptor, which has intercepted a system call from an application. The interceptor component communicates with the secure erase service via an interprocess communication module. The erase service receives the erase request from the communication module and communicates the erase request to a secure erase library. Using the file information within the secure erase request, the secure erase library queries the file system of the data storage device to determine the location of data blocks containing the data for deletion. Upon locating the data blocks, the secure erase library then instructs the device driver, via a virtual file system, to overwrite the data blocks a predetermined number of times.
