  • Patent number: 9304623
Abstract: A combination touch and transducer input system is provided, which facilitates user input into an electronic system with a finger and/or a transducer (e.g., a stylus). The system includes a transducer configured to generate an electric field, and a sensor including an array of electrodes and a controller. The transducer is configured to transmit digital data, such as pen pressure data and switch status data, to the sensor. The sensor controller operates both in a touch sensing mode and in a transducer sensing mode. During the touch sensing mode, the controller determines a position of a proximate object (e.g., a finger) by capacitively sensing the object with the array of electrodes. During the transducer sensing mode, the controller determines a position of the transducer based on a signal received by the array of electrodes from the transducer, and also receives and decodes the digital data encoded in the received signal.

  • Patent number: 9071347
Abstract: An electronic device configured for transferring at least one on board application program to a second electronic device, includes a processor employing software for performing an analysis of real-time operating characteristics of the electronic device, including any anomalous operating characteristics, in relation to on board application programs in the electronic device. A communication link, coupled to the electronic device, is configured for transferring at least one onboard application program from the electronic device to the second electronic device. The transfer of the at least one onboard application program from the electronic device to the second electronic device proceeds only if the software employed by the processor validates that the at least one onboard application program in the electronic device is unlikely to degrade operating characteristics of the second electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20150102907
Abstract: The present disclosure describes techniques for controlling access a restricted location (114) as well as a system (100) for doing so. According to various implementations, a potential entrant to the restricted location needs to transmit two values to an access authorization device (108) located at the perimeter (112) of the restricted location in order to gain access. In one implementation, the system provides an authentication code to a first device (116) (e.g., a smartphone) via wireless communication link (120) (e.g., over a cellular network) and displays a visual image (127) with an embedded access code at a display device (104). The second device (118), which is securely paired with the first device, captures the image and sends the image data to the first device. Using the authentication code and the access code, the first device derives the two values to gain access to the restricted location.

  • Publication number: 20140085048
Abstract: An electronic device and a method for unlocking the electronic device is disclosed herewith. The method includes pairing the electronic device with a remote device. The electronic device authenticates the remote device and thus establishes a secure and trusted connection. Furthermore, the method includes generating a password, at the electronic device, in response to the occurrence of an event. The generated password is then transmitted acoustically to the remote device. A user, after hearing the password, thereafter provides, within a predetermined time, at least one input at the electronic device, wherein the at least one input corresponds to the password. In other words, the electronic device receives at least one password within the predetermined time. The method further includes unlocking the electronic device in response to determining that the at least one input matches the password.
