    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for cleaning a nozzle plate of an inkjet print head are provided. A first method includes positioning a cleaning medium proximate the inkjet print head, determining a pressure for a pressure roller to apply against the cleaning medium, contacting the cleaning medium with the pressure roller with the determined pressure, and moving the cleaning medium relative to the inkjet print head so as to clean the inkjet print head. The method also includes purging ink from the inkjet print head prior to the pressure roller contacting the cleaning medium and pre-jetting ink from the inkjet print head after moving the cleaning medium.     Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for forming a pixel matrix. The methods include coating a substrate with a pixel matrix material, coating the pixel matrix material with an ink-phobic material, and forming pixel wells in the pixel matrix material and the ink-phobic material. A system for forming a pixel matrix is provided that includes a patterning tool including a laser ablation system operable to form pixel wells in pixel matrix material coated with ink-phobic material. The laser ablation system is operable to form pixel wells in pixel matrix material coated with ink-phobic material in an oxygenated environment so that the sidewalls of the pixel matrix are made to be ink-philic.     Abstract: A substrate support assembly and method for dechucking a substrate is provided. In one embodiment, a support assembly includes a substrate support having a support surface, a first set of lift pins and one or more other lift pins movably disposed through the substrate support. The first set of lift pins and the one or more lift pins project from the support surface when the pins are in an actuated position. When in the actuated position, the first set of lift pins project a longer distance from the support surface than the one or more other lift pins. In another aspect of the invention, a method for dechucking a substrate from a substrate support is provided. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of projecting a first set of lift pins a first distance above a surface of a substrate support, and projecting a second set of lift pins a second distance above the surface of the substrate support that is less than the first distance.

In one application, the treatment of the glass substrate and black matrix is performed prior to delivery of ink to the glass substrate by an inkjet printing system. In one aspect, exposing the black matrix and the glass substrate to a surface active compound modifies the surface energy of the black matrix, the surface energy of the glass substrate, or both.
