  • Patent number: 5626194
Abstract: A Fire Fighting System includes a vehicle with one or more mounted motors, a fire shield system, and an emergency fire retardant discharge system. The motors are equipped with cutting elements including cutting teeth, paddle teeth, and severe duty fire whips. The fire shield system may include a series of flame and heat retardant coverings placed on all exposed parts of the system to prevent damage from exposure to extreme heat. The emergency fire retardant discharge system distributes chemical fire retardant in the event the fire comes too close to the system. In operation, the vehicle operator positions the system at the edge of a fire line and energizes the motors causing the cutting elements and whips to begin rotating. Once rotating at full speed, the vehicle is advanced along the fire line with the cutting elements cutting and slashing the burning vegetation. Once cut, the burning vegetation is thrown aside by the severe-duty fire whips that rotate to throw the debris back towards the fire.

  • Patent number: 5493540
Abstract: A system and method for estimating a ship's far-field acoustic characteristics includes at least one reference hydrophone and at least one movable hydrophone, both of which are disposed in the water closely adjacent the ship. The movable hydrophone senses acoustic tonals at a plurality of points on the surface of an imaginary prolate spheroid surrounding the ship, the major and minor axes of which are roughly equal to one-half the length of the ship and the beam of the ship, respectively. The phase difference in the signals from the movable hydrophone and reference hydrophone are compared to generate a near-field data set. A computer is used to estimate a far-field data set representative of the ship's acoustic characteristics based on the near-field data set. Thus actual far-field measurements are not required.

  • Patent number: 5437165
Abstract: A food organizing and protecting insert provides a horizontal shelf with food receptacle receiving apertures which mounts in a portable ice chest. The shelf occludes the upper region of the inner liner of the chest forming a closed chamber to hold ice when the chest lid is open. The food receptacles are held by their upper rims in the apertures so that the body of each receptacle is within the cooled chamber. One or more hinged transparent covers, when closed, cover the receptacles, leaving a space above the receptacle for clearance of a serving utensil while permitting viewing of the contents of the receptacles. Downwardly extending support members hold the shelf fixed position parallel to the bottom of the chest. A closable hatch in the shelf may optionally be provided and the shelf may be transparent to permit selection and retrieval of items such as beverage containers stored with the ice chamber.

  • Patent number: 5154441
Abstract: A two tier, rolling and folding table has a top planar platform (1) supported at one end by a U shaped first leg assembly (7) connected to the platform by fixed pivots and supported at another end by a pair of legs (11) of a second leg assembly connected to the platform by a sliding pivot bar (12) that slides in guide slots (13) and latches in an open position. The legs of first and second leg assemblies mutually and pivotally intersect intermediate their ends. A bottom planar platform (2) with handle is supported at one end by fixed pivot connections to the U shaped leg assembly, and at another end by fixed pivot connections to the parallel members (23) of a wheeled leg assembly (20) carrying a pair of wheels. The legs (11) connected to the sliding bar (12) pass freely through slots (26) in the bottom platform and pivotally connect to the vertical members (23) of the wheeled leg assembly to lock the wheels in an open position.
