  • Patent number: 7904061
Abstract: A media control profile is described herein. The media control profile provides a number of selectable pre-defined and/or user-defined settings to manipulate the functionality of a hybrid telecommunications and entertainment mobile device. Three basic modes of operation, namely a telecommunications-only device mode, an entertainment-only device mode, and a hybrid telecommunications and entertainment device mode are provided. Setting associated with one or more of these basic modes are combined to form a media control profile for the hybrid mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20100125610
Abstract: A mobile communication device may operate with a number of different applications, each having different file types associated therewith. A file analyzer receives data files and analyzes the files to identify a content type and thereafter associates the identified file with the appropriate application or applications. The received data files may be delivered through a wired connection, a wireless connection, or through the introduction of a memory device, such as a removable storage device, to the mobile communication device. The file analyzer may provide the appropriate notification or indication of association or association to the application associated with the identified content type and may further provide user notification of a newly delivered file. The files may be data files, such as text or multimedia files such as audio and/or video files.

  • Publication number: 20080176584
Abstract: A technique configures a wireless device to perform operations based on the wireless device being within or near a particular physical environment. A wireless signal source identifier (e.g., a cell site identifier) serves as a wireless landmark for the particular physical environment. When the wireless device detects the wireless landmark, the wireless device performs operations previously associated with the wireless landmark. To define a wireless landmark for a particular physical environment, the wireless device detects wireless communications signals and decodes the signals to determine wireless signal source identifiers. A user selects a particular wireless signal source identifier and associates the selected wireless signal source identifier with an indication of the physical environment, such as a character string representation of the physical environment. The user indicates one or more operations for the wireless device to perform in response to subsequent detection of the wireless landmark.

Abstract: A technique configures a network to perform operations based on a wireless device being within or near a particular physical environment. A wireless signal source identifier (e.g., a cell site identifier) serves as a wireless landmark for the particular physical environment. When the network detects the wireless landmark (i.e., the wireless signal source identifier encoded in a signal received by the wireless device), the network performs operations previously associated with wireless landmark, e.g., delivers content to the wireless device.

  • Patent number: 6888823
Abstract: A method provides for utilizing a packet-switched network to support services provisioned to mobile station subscribers. Address information is exchanged with a mobile switching center that services the subscriber so as to be able to identify data port addresses to be utilized to support the services via transmissions over a packet-switched network.

  • Patent number: 6584317
Abstract: A system and method for concurrently ringing a subscriber's wired and mobile stations, where the wired station is served by a wired telecommunications network and the mobile station is served by a wireless telecommunications network. The call is routed to a network interface point of control from either the wired or wireless networks and the network interface becomes the point of control for the call. The call is initially offered to the mobile station by the network interface point of control, and before the mobile station rings, the call is offered to the wired station so that the wired and mobile stations ring concurrently.

  • Patent number: 6427071
Abstract: A method and apparatus facilitate secure communication between a controller and a signaling network. The controller generates messages corresponding to a protocol of the signaling network and wraps them in a second protocol. The wrapped message is carried via a second network to a gateway that unwraps the message and provides it to the signaling network.
