  • Publication number: 20050149869
Abstract: A method and system are presented for monitoring the performance of a clinical trial, and the adherence of trial participants to a protocol for the clinical trial. A plurality of templates are provided, which can be populated with protocol data can be entered that relate to behavioral elements of the protocol. The populated templates are downloaded to a plurality of remote devices. The remote devices generate, upon receipt of the templates populated with protocol data, prompting messages that prompt participants whether protocol elements have been performed, and that request performance data relating to any actual performance of the protocol elements. Based on the performance data, reports are periodically generated that compare actual performance of the protocol elements with expected or desired performance of the protocol elements.

  • Publication number: 20050028795
Abstract: A supercharger system for an internal combustion model engine is driven by the associated engine and includes a drive belt, a belt driven pulley and a mounting bracket. The pulley drives a shaft, which is connected to the turbo impeller. The impeller is driven at multiple speeds within a volute. The turbo impeller is recessed into an internal housing to provide smooth air flow from the impeller into the volute. The mounting bracket provides flexibility in mounting to various internal combustion model engines. A portion of the supercharger output pressure can be diverted through a hose containing a check valve and used to create positive pressure in a pressurized fuel cell, resulting in consistent and even flow of fuel into the engine's combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 6546045
Abstract: A method to improve communication system performance using an adaptive modem that estimates the communication channel scattering function to select one of several modulation schemes. The scattering function is estimated from the channel's frequency (doppler) and time (multipath) spreading effects on a probe signal. The probe signal is transmitted from a first modem to a second modem. The second modem processes the channel measurements and transmits the channel spreading factors to the first modem. Based upon the channel scattering function estimate, channel characteristic data, propagation models, strategic information, and modem position estimates, the first modem selects one of several modulation schemes. Subsequent data transmissions from the first modem to the second modem contain a modulation mode identifier. The second modem uses the modulation mode identifier to select the correct demodulation scheme.

  • Patent number: 6412135
Abstract: A shuttle exchanger 22 exchanges a shuttle 19 circulating in a reentrant lumen 13 by actuating a channel selector 27 to alter the path of the shuttle to be exchanged. Following the altered path the to-be-exchanged shuttle impinges on a shuttle 42 stored in a storage channel 25 and drives it into the reentrant loop while the to-be-exchanged shuttle is retained in the storage channel. The enclosing wall 23 of the shuttle exchanger defines part of the reentrant lumen and includes therein the channel selector 27, the shuttle storage channel 25, a bypass channel 26, and a collector section 29.

  • Patent number: 6070417
Abstract: A source fluid from which solid material forms when it is cooled is passed through apparatus which defines a continuous reentrant lumen. The lumen has a thermally conductive processing wall from which heat is extracted from the outside as the source fluid flows through the lumen, resulting in formation of solid material on the inner surface of the lumen wall. A runner circulates around the lumen and dislodges material deposited on the inner surface of the lumen wall. This material is then carried as solids of a slurry out of the apparatus with the fluid stream.

  • Patent number: 5966735
Abstract: A new system and method for outswapping a process is disclosed. The new system forms one or more working set list chains (also referred to as "page table chains") during the outswap process. The new system then conveniently locates and outswaps a number of page table pages of the process to be outswapped by traversing the working set list chains. In a preferred embodiment, the forming of each working set list chain is performed while traversing a working set list during outswapping of a number of body pages of a process. Each working set list entry potentially describes a page of virtual memory in use by the process to be outswapped. In a further aspect of the disclosed system, traversing the working set list of the process to be outswapped includes determining whether each one of the working set list entries indicates a private page table page. If an entry in the working set list indicates a private page table page, the present system adds a link to a working set list chain.

  • Patent number: 4959639
Abstract: A flexible rod-and sleeve assembly with rod and surrounding sleeve affixed to each other at their bottom ends is maintained by a spring to put the sleeve in tension. The assembly is inserted into a cavity such as a monitoring well so as to extend below the lowest level which the water table may assume. The sleeve is made of a material which is attacked by petroleum products but not by water, and when a layer of petroleum liquid such as gasoline collects on the surface of the water in contact with some region of the sleeve, the sleeve material loses its strength and ruptures. This results in an upward movement of the sleeve, which is used to actuate alarm and signaling mechanisms.
