  • Patent number: 8371377
Abstract: A method to improve the effectiveness of MEOR or bioremediation processes. In this method toxic chemicals accumulated in subterranean sites adjacent to the water injection wells are either dispersed or removed prior to introduction of microbial inocula for enhanced microbial oil recovery or bioremediation of these sites.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 9, 2010
Date of Patent: February 12, 2013
Assignee: E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Albert W. Alsop, Robert D. Fallon, Scott Christopher Jackson
  • Patent number: 8357526
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to isolation and identification of unique Pseudomonas stutzeri strains that can grow on crude oil under denitrifying conditions and are useful in oil recovery.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 18, 2008
Date of Patent: January 22, 2013

  • Publication number: 20120295342
Abstract: A method to prevent contamination of feed line(s) and nutrient feed reservoir(s) is disclosed. In this method a heated zone is established in the feed line close to the location where the feed line connects to the bioreactor. The heated zone prevents back growth of cells from the bioreactor back into the feed line and further into the feed reservoir.

  • Publication number: 20120273189
Abstract: Disclosed herein is introduction of different nutrient solution formulations to a subterranean target site to prevent biofilm formation and biomass aggregation at the sand face of an injection well bore during MEOR or bioremediation processes. A first nutrient solution formulation supports growth of introduced microorganisms and a second nutrient solution formulation is used to promote biofilm formation to allow plugging of pores and channels in the subterranean target site, for MEOR or bioremediation.

  • Publication number: 20120277126
Abstract: Methods, microorganisms, and compositions are provided wherein oil reservoirs are inoculated with microorganisms belonging to Pseudomonas stutzeri and medium including an electron acceptor. The Pseudomonas stutzeri grow in the oil reservoir to form plugging biofilms that reduce permeability in areas of subterranean formations thereby increasing sweep efficiency, and thereby enhancing oil recovery.

  • Patent number: 8110382
Abstract: A process is provided for producing glycolic acid from formaldehyde and hydrogen cyanide. More specifically, heat-treated formaldehyde and hydrogen cyanide are reacted to produce glycolonitrile having low concentrations of impurities. The glycolonitrile is subsequently converted to an aqueous solution of ammonium glycolate using an enzyme catalyst having nitrilase activity derived from Acidovorax facilis 72W (ATCC 57746). Glycolic acid is recovered in the form of the acid or salt from the aqueous ammonium glycolate solution using a variety of methods described herein.
