  • Patent number: 8219256
Abstract: A wind farm (10) may include a plurality of variable speed wind turbines (12, 14, 16). A centralized controller (50) may be configured to selectively adjust a respective electrical output power from each of the wind turbines at least during an underfrequency condition. The controller may include a monitor (52) configured to monitor a grid frequency value relative to at least a first threshold value. A deviation of the grid frequency value beyond the first threshold value is indicative of the underfrequency condition. The controller further includes a control unit (54) configured to effect a step response to the electrical output power of the wind turbine in a direction selected to counteract the underfrequency condition.

  • Publication number: 20120019007
Abstract: A collector system (49) for supplying electrical energy to a grid (50). The collector system (49) comprises a plurality of voltage sources (46/48/66/68) each producing a fundamental frequency current and a plurality of harmonic frequency currents related to the fundamental frequency, wherein one or more of the plurality of fundamental frequency currents have a time displacement relative to a current on the collector system (49), each one of the plurality of voltage sources (46/48/66/68) connected to the collector system (49) through a transformer (51/52/70), certain ones of the transformers (51/52/70) imparting a phase angle shift to compensate for the time displacement of the fundamental frequency current produced by each voltage source (46/48/66/68), and wherein the time displacement and the phase angle shifts are selected to reduce harmonic currents on the collector system (49).

  • Patent number: 7999433
Abstract: A generator rotor core (54) carrying superconducting windings (60) and having a shield (426) over the superconducting windings (60) to prevent external magnetic fields from impinging the windings. Axial shield edges (430/434) mate with corresponding features of the rotor core (54) or with structures affixed to or supported by the core (54) to support the shield (426).
