    Abstract: An electrically or manually operable brake drive for the brakes of a vehicle which has a gear train optionally driven by a reversible electric motor or a manual member. The brakes can be set or released by the electric motor without manual changing of the drive components permitting setting and releasing of the brakes at a location remote from the drive. For maintaining the brakes in a “set” mode, the drive includes a gradual release detent mechanism which permits rotation of the gears in the brake setting direction but opposes such rotation in the opposite direction unless a drive shaft rotatable by the motor or the manual member is rotated in the brake release direction.

The display portion (2) has at least one backlight arranged to illuminate a display backlight area (8) by light surface-scattered from the area (8) to provide a diffuse back illumination for a display. The button portion (4,6) may have an opaque surface coating over part of the translucent material, so that the button portion (4,6) is not backlit through the coated part.

    Abstract: A modular semiconductor wafer processing system comprises a chamber with a wafer support and gas manifold structure that supplies reactive gases through a showerhead delivery system to one side of a wafer-being-processed and that exhausts both the reactive gases and a non-reactive gas flow. The other side of the wafer is protected from the reactive gases by evenly delivering the non-reactive gases from a platen close to the wafer. The gap between the wafer and platen, and the choice of non-reactive gas and its flow rate are adjusted to optimize the protection afforded to the wafer's one side while still allowing, for example, the stripping of a silicon nitride film from the wafer's other side.

    Abstract: First and second independent communication systems are linked across an intersystem interface by a virtual circuit constituted by a land line linking the central stations of both systems. Occasionally both central stations may attempt to simultaneously use the virtual circuit, which cannot be done for digitized speech because in that case the virtual circuit operates as a simplex link. A method of resolving this conflict is disclosed, whereby one of the central stations is issued a token by the other entitling the holder of the token to use the virtual circuit. After the transaction is completed, the token is then returned. Two algorithms are disclosed, one based on the last user of a token giving it to the other user, and the other of which takes into account the number of registered secondary stations in each system.

The ionization of the gas is confined to the region adjacent to the driven electrode, and the active species pass through the perforated shield to the wafers or other workpieces.

    Abstract: A portable radiation dosimeter unit for continuously measuring exposure to radioactive decay products in ambient air. The unit is constructed as a unitary assembly suitable for mounting on a portable battery casing, the assembly housing a constant flow air pump for maintaining a constant flow of air through a filter, a detection unit and electronic circuitry connected to the detection unit for processing, counting and storing pulses generated by the detection of radioactive particles from decay products entrapped by the filter. The filter is readily replaceable, and in use is clamped in position by a clamp assembly pivotally mounted on a front wall of the unit, the clamp assembly providing an internal air passage forming part of the air flow path and positioned to receive the air which is drawn through the filter.
