Patent number: 8360102Abstract: A closed system for harvesting fat through liposuction, concentrating the aspirate so obtained, and then re-injecting the concentrated fat into a patient comprises as its main components a low pressure cannula having between about 7 to 12 side holes of about 1-2 mm by 2.0 to 4.0 mm, a spring loaded syringe holder with a constant force or coiled ribbon spring to apply a substantially constant pressure over the full excursion of the plunger, and a preferably flexible collection bag which is also preferably graduated, cylindrical over most of its body and funnel shaped at its bottom, all of which are connected through flexible tubings to a multi-port valve. The multi-port valve has two flutter/duck bill valves which restrict the fluid flow to a one way direction which effectively allows the syringe to be used to pump fat out of a patient and into a collection bag in a continuous manner.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2009Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: Lipocosm LLCInventors: Roger K. Patent number: 8066691Abstract: A method is disclosed for preparing a soft tissue site, and augmenting the soft tissue site, such as the breast(s) of a subject through use of devices that exert a distractive force on the breast(s) and grafting of autologous fat tissue such as domes with sealing rims for surrounding each of the breasts and a regulated pump. The method for preparing the soft tissue site, and enhancing fat graft results, entails application of the distracting force to the targeted soft tissue site for several weeks prior to the graft procedure. A related aspect of the invention includes following the preparation steps by transfer of fat from other areas of the subject to the subject's breast(s), and then reapplication of the distractive force to the breast(s) that received the autologous fat graft. Alternatively, fat from genetically related sources may be used, and the fat may be further processed prior to injection.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2006Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Inventor: Roger K. Patent number: 6926667Abstract: A patient monitoring device includes a microprocessor controller having a clock circuit and memory coupled to one or more sensors physically carried by a medical appliance such that as the medical appliance is properly fitted to and worn by the patient, the sensors provide an electrical signal confirming that which may be then timed to provide data which confirms a patient's compliance with a recommended protocol. By combining and correlating the sensor data with the clock or timer provided as part of the controller, a time chart of data may be created indicating when and for how long the patient actually wears the device. Additionally, other sensors may be used to collect data relating to various operational parameters of the device including the amount of negative pressure presented under a vacuum dome or other parameters related to the operation of the medical appliance itself, as desired.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2003Date of Patent: August 9, 2005Assignee: Brava, LLCInventor: Roger K. Patent number: 6500112Abstract: A dome for applying a vacuum to a patient's skin surface is comprised of a generally rigid dome capable of withstanding a pressure differential, with a rim cushion underlying the rim of the dome for supporting a rim from the patient's skin surface. The rim may be generally wider than the dome in order to distribute the attendant forces across a greater surface and avoid tissue damage. A sticky sole underlies the rim cushion and seals the rim cushion to the patient's skin to thereby preserve the vacuum within the dome. The sticky sole may be comprised of any adhesive material or even be achieved through the use of an appropriate material for the rim cushion itself.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1998Date of Patent: December 31, 2002Assignee: Brava, LLCInventor: Roger K. Patent number: 6478656Abstract: A soft tissue expander comprises a dome having a layer of memory material which transitions from a first, shallower, malleable configuration to a second, deeper configuration in response to its being heated to its transition temperature which is set at human body surface temperature. The second, deeper configuration is first “set” in the memory of the memory material so that the dome returns to it upon being heated by the body temperature of the patient. The memory material may be any one of the shape memory alloys, or plastic materials. The interior of the dome is adhered to the skin of the soft tissue to be expanded, such as through sticky layer of gel or surface tension provided by a thin layer of fluid. In one embodiment, a bra has a pair of domes for covering a patient's breasts and which applies a tensile force thereon to thereby increase their size.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1998Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignee: Brava, LLCInventor: Roger K. Publication number: 20020013516Abstract: A medical device includes a controller having a microcomputer and sensor for monitoring and collecting data relating to a patient's compliance with a recommended or prescribed regimen for use of the medical device. The controller is battery operated and is recharged by placing the controller into a cradle which has a wall plug for providing power to the cradle and the controller. The cradle also has a modem and phone connection so that as the controller rests in the cradle, compliance data contained within the controller is automatically transmitted by a modem over the phone line connection to a central location. The central location includes a data network for receiving the patient compliance data, processing and storing it in virtual patient files, and one or more web servers host a web site for displaying the patient data in its processed form. Access to the web site is secure and allows a patient to view her own data.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2001Publication date: January 31, 2002Applicant: Bio-mecanica, Inc.Inventors: Carlos V.
