  • Patent number: 7427123
Abstract: A modular printhead is provided for an inkjet printer. The printhead includes an elongate mounting member defining a channel. A plurality of elongate printhead modules is arranged end to end within the channel. Each printhead module has complementary nesting formations at either end so that adjacent printhead modules are nested together. Each printhead module includes an elongate printhead integrated circuit (IC) which is configured to print ink, and is aligned obliquely with respect to the mounting member so that adjacent printhead ICs overlap along the mounting member and provide for continuity of printing on print media which passes across the printhead.

  • Patent number: 7172266
Abstract: A printhead assembly for a pagewidth ink jet printer includes an ink storage assembly that defines at least one ink storage chamber. An elongate mounting member is mounted on the ink storage assembly to be in fluid communication with the, or each, ink storage chamber. At least one printhead module is mounted on the mounting member and has a carrier that defines a recess and a printhead chip received in the recess. The recess is in fluid communication with the mounting member so that ink from the, or each, ink storage chamber can be fed to the printhead chip.

  • Patent number: 6969150
Abstract: A printhead for a pagewidth ink jet printer comprises an elongate receiving member that defines a receptacle and at least one elongate printhead module. Each of the printhead modules defines a channel in which a printhead chip is receivable. The the receiving member and the printhead modules together define pairs of complementary location formations such that the printhead module is received in the receptacle so that the complementary locating formations engage each other. The modules extend along a longitudinal axis of the receiving member. The complementary location formations comprise a projection and a recess adapted to receive the projection. The projection is slidably received within the recess so that expansion of the printhead module relative to the receiving member along the longitudinal axis is accommodated.

  • Patent number: 6655786
Abstract: A printhead includes a receiving member defined in a receiving zone. At least one printhead module is received in the receiving zone of the receiving member. Complementary locating formations are carried by the receiving member and the at least one printhead module. The locating formations enable relative movement of the at least one printhead module, due to expansion, in three orthogonal axes relative to the receiving member.

  • Patent number: 6485135
Abstract: A printhead assembly includes a body defining a seat for a printhead and having a dividing member. A plurality of fluid storage galleries is arranged on one side of the dividing member. A plurality of feed passages is arranged on an opposed side of the dividing member, each feed passage having a first end in communication with one of the galleries and an opposed end opening out into the seat. A printhead is mounted in the seat such that fluid fed from the galleries is supplied to at least one printhead chip of the printhead.

  • Patent number: 6457810
Abstract: A method of assembling a printhead which has a receiving member and a plurality of printhead modules arranged end-to-end in the receiving member includes, upon completion of manufacturing the receiving member, testing each bay of the receiving member in which a module will be received to determine a manufacturing offset from specification for that bay. A printhead module is selected having a manufacturing offset from specification which compensates for the offset of the bay of the receiving member for which it has been selected and the printhead module is then inserted into its associated bay of the receiving member.
