  • Patent number: 5908414
Abstract: An improved implantable infusion pump comprises a propellant chamber, a medicament chamber, and a throttle section. Enclosed within the throttle section is a medicament delivery system comprising a chip having a fluid path etched in an upper surface, inlet and outlet depressions formed in the chip lower and upper surfaces respectively, and a channel formed through the chip connecting the inlet with the fluid path. A planar cover, preferably transparent, covers the chip upper surface. A pair of wafers surround the chip within the throttle section and pair of silicon coatings are positioned between the chip and the pair of wafers. Various bores, apertures, and recesses are formed in the wafers, the cover, and the coatings, for permitting the medicament fluid to pass through the throttle section. An alternate embodiment employs a plurality of fluid paths and a plurality of outlets permitting different throttle resistance.

  • Patent number: 5667504
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for adjustment of a switchable, flow-limiting device for limited flow of liquids or gases employs a remote service device. The flow-limiting device and the service device are spatially separated and there is no bodily connection between the two. Energy necessary for adjustment of the flow-limiting device is transmitted from the service device into an infusion pump that contains the flow-limiting device. The flow-limiting device is a valve having three stable operating positional states. The valve can only be switched while energy is being transmitted from the service device.

  • Patent number: 5644564
Abstract: A pneumatically operated vacuum chuck for releasably securing data discs includes an arbor with an annular land disposed at the distal end thereof to engage the inner periphery of the disc. An annular groove is formed concentrically in the land to exert a suction grip on a data disc. A piston assembly is secured in a bore within the arbor, the distal end of the piston assembly including a resilient bushing that expands diametrically upon proximal retraction to block the egress path of the disc from the annular land. The piston head engages the bore with a sliding seal, and the sealed interior chamber of the arbor communicates with the annular groove at the distal end of the arbor. A compression spring biases the piston assembly proximally, and air pressure applied to the proximal end of the piston assembly drives the piston assembly distally against the spring.

  • Patent number: 5200014
Abstract: Apparatus for translating objects along a path is constructed in a manner which automatically conforms surfaces of a guideway with adjacent surfaces of a rail that extends along the guideway and thereby realizes very precise travel. A housing containing the guideway initially has a channel that is broader than the guideway. Plates are loosely disposed in the channel and strips of resilient material extend from the plates to the channel walls. The rail is emplaced between the plates and a cover plate is secured to the housing over the rail. This wedges the plates apart and compresses the resilient material while causing the top of the rail to be strictly parallel with the cover plate and while causing the plates to be strictly parallel with the rail side surfaces. Hardenable liquid adhesive is injected into the channel to unitize the plates with the housing.

  • Patent number: 5025340
Abstract: A chuck adapted for releasably securing data discs and the like for processing and testing procedures includes an arbor secured at its proximal end to a rotatable tool, and a cylindrical bore within the arbor houses a reciprocating piston. A spring within the bore biases the piston proximally, and a piston rod extends through an aperture in the distal end of the arbor. The distal end of the arbor includes a neck portion extending axially and distally and dimensioned to extend through the central aperture of a data disc, and an annular land surface extending about the neck portion to impinge upon the disc surface adjacent to the central aperture thereof. A resilient bushing is secured coaxially to the distal end of the piston rod, the bushing having a truncated conical configuration tapering toward the distal end. The proximal end of the bushing is dimensioned to be slightly smaller in diameter than the inner diameter of the annular land surface, and is provided with a bevelled outer edge.

  • Patent number: 4790074
Abstract: An apparatus tests rack teeth of a rack member for a rack and pinion vehicle steering gear. The apparatus comprises a support for mounting the rack member for longitudinal displacement and a helically toothed test pinion member having an axis. A carriage mounts the test pinion member for rotation about its axis and in driving engagement with the rack member. A resilient biasing spring urges the test pinion member into engagement with the rack member and provides a predetermined lateral spacing between the longitudinal axis of the rack member and the axis of the test pinion member. A screw adjusts the biasing force of the resilient biasing spring at the predetermined lateral spacing. A drive effects displacement of one of the rack and test pinion members to impart displacement to the other of the rack and test pinion members.

  • Patent number: 3953098
Abstract: This invention relates to a locking electrical connector which is particularly adapted for lanyard release. The connector has a first contact with an annular inner projection. This contact is adapted for expansion to enlarge the diameter of the inner projection when a mating second contact or jack is being inserted or removed from the contact. A locking collar is mounted for movement between a first position over the first contact, preventing the expansion thereof, and a second position in which the collar does not inhibit the expansion of the contact. The locking collar is normally biased to the first position. The second contact or jack has an annular outer groove and is dimensioned to be seated in the first contact with the annular projection of the first contact in the annular groove of the second contact when the contacts are fully mated.
