Patent number: 11019621Abstract: A wireless network having one or more access points and one or more stations may improve spectrum efficiency for uplink transmissions by assigning a plurality of stations to a channel (or subchannel), each with a different priority. A channel may be assigned to a first station with the first priority, a second station with a second priority, and so on (e.g., instead of assigning the channel to just one station). An access point may transmit information indicative of the channel assignments, priorities, and other information used by stations to perform uplink transmissions. If a station with the highest priority receives the data from the access point, it may start transmission. A station with a lower priority may listen, during a listening period, to the same channel and determine whether the higher priority station started transmission during the listening period.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2016Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: Nokia Technologies OyInventors: Wessam Afifi Ahmed, Enrico-Henrik Rantala, Eric Torkildson, Sayantan Choudhury, Esa Juhani Tuomaala

Patent number: 11005552Abstract: A wireless communication device may autonomously transition from a multiple antenna port mode to a single antenna port mode. The wireless communication device may implicitly notify a base station about the autonomous transition from the multiple antenna port mode to the single antenna port mode. The base station may reallocate resources that were previously allocated to the wireless communication device but that are no longer being used by the wireless communication device. In some cases, the base station may configure the wireless communication device's antenna port mode via radio resource control signaling.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2020Date of Patent: May 11, 2021Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kimihiko Imamura, John Michael Kowalski, Sayantan Choudhury

Patent number: 10142996Abstract: An access point in a random access wireless network is presented, which performs medium access control for transmissions from a plurality of stations to the access point using a carrier sense multiple access protocol. The CSMA protocol is based on the access point having a variable sensitivity level to detecting other transmissions on a wireless channel in order to avoid data collisions. In a dense network environment, the sensitivity level can be reduced to avoid detecting transmissions to other access points, and thus improve area efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2015Date of Patent: November 27, 2018Assignee: Nokia Technologies OyInventors: Sarabjot Singh, Sayantan Choudhury, Enrico-Henrik Rantala, Namyoon Lee, Esa Juhani Tuomaala

Patent number: 10123352Abstract: When contending for access to a radio channel (for example CSMA/CA in Wi-Fi), an apparatus selects a first clear channel assessment (CCA) threshold that is higher than a minimum; determines to temporarily use a second CCA threshold that is lower than the first CCA threshold; and based on this determination it selects the second CCA threshold for a specified time period. In one embodiment this determination is based on the apparatus' use of a spectrum relative to a threshold usage level which may be calculated as a number of successful transmissions by the apparatus on the spectrum over a predefined time period; and/or as a deferring time experienced by the apparatus with respect to the spectrum over a predefined time period. In an embodiment the specified time period comprises a backoff time, and the determination to temporarily use the second CCA threshold is triggered by a periodic timer.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2016Date of Patent: November 6, 2018Assignee: Nokia Technologies OyInventors: Wessam Afifi Ahmed, Enrico-Henrik Rantala, Esa Juhani Tuomaala, Sayantan Choudhury

Patent number: 9942884Abstract: Uplink data indication transmission(s) are received over a subband and over OFDM symbol(s) from STA(s) in a wireless communication system. The received uplink data indication transmission(s) are decoded to determine a unique codeword for each of the STA(s). From the determined unique codewords and using a mapping between station IDs and codewords in a codebook, a unique station ID is determined for each of the STA(s). For STA(s) determined to have sent the uplink data indication, other operations are performed to prepare for subsequent reception of uplink data from the STA(s) determined to have sent the uplink data indication.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2016Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: Nokia Technologies OyInventors: Namyoon Lee, Sarabjot Singh, Esa Tuomaala, Sayantan Choudhury

Patent number: 9930677Abstract: A method for reporting uplink control information (UCI) on a user equipment (UE) is described. A collision of multiple channel state information (CSI) reports corresponding to multiple component carriers (CCs) that are scheduled to be reported in the same subframe is detected. A highest priority CSI report of the multiple CSI reports is determined using a prioritization scheme. The highest priority CSI report is transmitted.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2010Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Sayantan Choudhury, Shohei Yamada, Ahmad Khoshnevis, Zhanping Yin, John M. Publication number: 20180026762Abstract: Systems and techniques for coordinating wireless local area networking communication. An access point capable of OFDMA communication transmits to one or more stations capable of synchronous communication. Each communication frame transmitted on the uplink or downlink includes information, such as OFDM header information, Morming legacy stations not to transmit during the OFDMA transmission. The header information may be a legacy header prepended by the access point for downlink transmission, or a portion of a legacy header prepended by each of a plurality of stations for uplink transmission, with the portions being concatenated into a complete header during a simultaneous transmission. Alternatively, the header information may be a header transmitted by a designated group leader during a simultaneous transmission.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 6, 2015Publication date: January 25, 2018Applicant: Nokia Technologies OyInventors: Hossein-Ali SAFAVI-NAEINI, Sayantan CHOUDHURY

Patent number: 9826474Abstract: Methods, apparatus and program products are disclosed for allowing wireless devices in two wireless access networks whose coverage areas overlap to communicate with their respective access nodes. Groups may be assigned to wireless devices in the access networks and the groups may be used by wireless devices in the access networks to determine whether to access a communication medium or not. Received powers may also be used by wireless devices in the access networks to determine whether or not to access a communication medium. A wireless device in a first access network can determine whether to access (e.g., compete for access to) the communication medium by comparing a measured power of transmission from a second access node with an indication of a minimum received power above which wireless devices in a second access network formed by a second access node are allowed to contend for access to the communication medium.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2016Date of Patent: November 21, 2017Assignee: Nokia Technologies OyInventors: Chittabrata Ghosh, Sayantan Choudhury

Publication number: 20170127452Abstract: Various implementations described herein are directed to a method for terminating a transmission opportunity. The method may transmit an indication of a channel reservation for a transmission opportunity comprising a busy tone slot and a plurality of resource elements. The method may determine whether busy tone signals were received during the busy tone slot. If no busy tone signals were received during the busy tone slot, the method may terminate the transmission opportunity prior to a scheduled end time of the channel reservation.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2015Publication date: May 4, 2017Inventors: Wessam Afifi Ahmed, Enrico-Henrik Rantala, Sayantan Choudhury, Jarkko Kneckt
