  • Publication number: 20160191678
Abstract: Technologies for ensuring data integrity for multi-packet operations include a computing device and a remote computing device communicatively coupled via a network. The computing device is configured to perform a segmentation offload operation on an original network packet, compute a hash value on the payload of each segmented payload of the original network packet, and store the hash value and an indication into the segmented network packet that indicates the hash value is stored in the segmented network packet. The remote computing device is configured to extract the indication and the hash value from a received network packet in response to determining the indication indicates the hash value is stored in the segmented network packet, compute a hash value on the payload of received network packet, and determine an integrity of the payload based on a comparison of the extracted hash value and the computed hash value.

  • Publication number: 20150358087
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed toward techniques and configurations for an optical apparatus to control optical power of the light source. In one embodiment, the apparatus may include a transmitter and receiver to transmit and receive optical signals over an optical communication channel, and a controller to cause the transmitter to transmit pulse signals at a first power level and detect a change in optical power in the channel, indicating a presence of a signal from another optical apparatus. The controller may confirm that the detected apparatus is capable of communications at a second power level (greater than the first level) and initiate data transmission at the second level. Upon detection of a failure in the channel, the controller may cause the transmitter to halt the data transmission and restart the pulse signals at the first power level. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

  • Patent number: 9112602
Abstract: Automatically determining a link speed between link partners using a multispeed fiber module. An embodiment solves the problem of how to determine the highest common link speed between short range (SR)/long range (LR) fiber link partners when at least one of the link partners is using a multispeed fiber module. In an embodiment, a multispeed fiber module comprises a module that is capable of both 10 gigabit (GB) per second Ethernet and 1 GB per second Ethernet or lesser data transfer speeds over a fiber optical link. In an embodiment, the method comprises trying each link speed in a known succession, from highest supported speed to lowest supported speed. In an embodiment, an initiator link partner “blinks” a transmit laser, which alerts the link partners that a link speed determination session is being initiated. By automatically determining link speed, the user is relieved of the necessity to manually configure the link speed.

  • Patent number: 9047417
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer platforms and architectures employing node aware network interfaces are disclosed. The methods and apparatus may be implemented on computer platforms such as those employing a Non-uniform Memory Access (NUMA) architecture including a plurality of nodes, each node comprising a plurality of components including a processor having at least one level of memory cache and being operatively coupled to system memory and operatively coupled to a NUMA aware Network Interface Controller (NIC). Under one method, a packet is received from a network at a first NIC comprising a component of a first node, and a determination is made that packet data for the packet is to be forwarded to a second node including a second NIC. The packet data is then forwarded from the first NIC to the second NIC via a NIC-to-NIC interconnect link. Upon being received at the second NIC, processing of the packet (data) is handled as if the packet was received from the network at the second NIC.

  • Publication number: 20140258738
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for implementing Power over Ethernet (PoE) for auxiliary power in computer systems. Under aspects of the methods, one or more voltage inputs comprising standard power input is employed by a power control component in a network interface in an apparatus such as a network adaptor board, a System on a Chip (SoC), computer server or server blade to supply power to a network controller on the apparatus when the apparatus is operating at a normal power state. To enable the apparatus to maintain network communication when operating at a reduced power state, a PoE power input derived from at least one PoE signal received at at least one Ethernet jack of the apparatus is employed to provide power to the network controller absent use or availability of the standard power input. Accordingly, the PoE power input facilitates an auxiliary power function that may be used alone or in combination with existing (as applicable) auxiliary power input when apparatus are operated in reduced power states.

  • Patent number: 8413198
Abstract: A method and system for providing controlled on-demand distribution of content via a centralized server and a peer-to-peer network have been described. The method may include receiving, at a server, a request from a client for content where the requesting client and the server are part of a peer-to-peer network. The server may then determine whether the requesting client has access rights to the content. If the requesting client has access rights to the content, then the server may determine one or more other clients on the peer-to-peer network that have the content available for download. The server may then select one or more clients from the one or more other clients and allow the requesting client to download the content from the selected one or more clients. Other embodiments have also been described and claimed.
