  • Publication number: 20190342874
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) can include processing circuitry coupled to memory. To configure the UE for New Radio (NR) unlicensed band (NR-U) communications, the processing circuitry is to decode downlink control information (DCI) received via a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH). The DCI provides allocation of uplink frequency resources of a transmission bandwidth. The allocation is a block interleaved frequency division multiple access (B-IFDMA) allocation including a plurality of interleaved physical resource blocks (PRBs) forming M number of interlaces within the transmission bandwidth, and N number of PRBs within each interlace of the M number of interlaces, with N and M being integers greater than or equal to 1. Data is encoded for transmission to a base station via a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) using the B-IFDMA allocation of uplink frequency resources.

  • Publication number: 20190273578
Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE), Next Generation Node-B (gNB) and methods of communication are generally described herein. The gNB may encode multiple candidate code-block groups to be available for a transmission in unlicensed spectrum, wherein one of the candidate code-block groups is to be transmitted based on a listen-before-talk (LBT) process. Each of the candidate code-block groups may be mapped to a different subset of channels in the unlicensed spectrum. The gNB may determine, based on one or more channel measurements, one or more of the channels that are available for the transmission. The gNB may select, as the candidate code-block group to be transmitted, a candidate code-block group for which the subset of the channels that is mapped to the selected candidate code-block group is included in the one or more channels that are available for the transmission.

  • Publication number: 20190238208
Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE), Next Generation Node-B (gNB) and methods of communication are generally described herein. The UE receive training signals from a plurality of transmit-receive points (TRPs) associated with the gNB. Each training signal may comprise a reference signal resource identifier (ID) to indicate a corresponding TRP and a corresponding transmit direction of a plurality of transmit directions. The UE may, for each transmit direction of the plurality of transmit directions, determine an average signal quality measurement based on individual signal quality measurements in multiple receive directions. The UE may select, for reporting to the gNB, a subset of the average signal quality measurements to ensure that the average signal quality measurements excluded from the subset are less than or equal to a minimum value of the average signal quality measurements in the subset.

  • Publication number: 20190215887
Abstract: Systems and methods of optimizing NR RRC connection establishment are described. The UE transmits a RRC request for establishment of a connection to a gNB. The RRC request is transmitting on a SRB1 rather than SRB0. The SRB1 has a default SRB1 configuration stored in memory. A response from the gNB is received and acknowledged using the SRB1 or a SRB1 having a SRB1 configuration provided in the response. The RRC request is a RRCReestablishmentRequest or RRCResumeRequest.

  • Publication number: 20190208411
Abstract: Systems and methods of a security framework for an RRC connection are described. The UE receives a release message that comprises a current Next Hop Chaining Counter (NCC). The UE derives a new KeNB* using the current NCC and transmits an EDT RA preamble to same or a different base station. After receiving an RAR with an uplink allocation, the UE transmits a RRCConnectionResumeRequest message. The UE transmits uplink data encrypted using KeNB* if the uplink allocation includes a data allocation sufficient for the data, fall backs to a legacy RRC connection procedure in which the stored KeNB* is discarded and then KeNB* is re-derived if the data allocation is insufficient for the data due to a CE level change, and fall backs to a legacy RRC connection procedure in which the stored KeNB* is used instead of discarding KeNB* if the uplink allocation excludes the data allocation.

  • Publication number: 20190174576
Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE), Evolved Node-B (eNB) and methods of communication are generally described herein. The UE may receive a SystemInformationBlockType1 from an eNB. The UE may determine that the eNB supports Fifth Generation Core (5GC) operation if the SystemInformationBlockType1 message includes a plmn-Identity-5GC-r15 parameter. The UE may transmit a radio resource control (RRC) connection request message to establish an RRC connection. If it is determined that the eNB supports 5GC operation, and if the UE supports 5GC operation, the UE may encode the RRC connection request message in accordance with a default new radio packet data convergence protocol (NR PDCP) configuration; and may use NR PDCP for one or more subsequent messages.

  • Publication number: 20190159197
Abstract: User equipment (UE) includes processing circuitry. To configure the UE for early data transmission (EDT), the processing circuitry is to encode a physical random access channel (PRACH) preamble for transmission to a base station as a PRACH procedure Message 1 (MSG1), the PRACH preamble including a request for EDT. A random-access response (RAR) message is decoded, the RAR message received from the base station as a PRACH procedure Message 2 (MSG2) and including an uplink (UL) grant for the EDT with a transmission block size (TBS) indicator. A TBS is selected from a plurality of available TBSs corresponding to the TBS indicator. UL data is encoded for the EDT to the base station as a PRACH procedure Message 3 (MSG3) using the UL grant and the selected TBS.
