  • Patent number: 11722265
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A network node may identify a set of packets for broadcasting to a set of user equipment (UEs) and may transmit a set of encoded packets based on the set of packets. The network node may receive feedback from one or more of the UEs, and the feedback may indicate a number of successfully received packets of the set of encoded packets at each of the one or more UEs. Based on the feedback, the network node may transmit a second set of encoded packets to the set of UEs if the number of successfully received packets for at least one UE fails to satisfy a decodability threshold. The transmitter may continue to transmit sets of encoded packets until the feedback indicates that each UE has received a number of packets that satisfies the decodability threshold.

  • Patent number: 11677455
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may use the techniques described herein to efficiently detect beam failure. In one aspect, the UE may autonomously select one or more criteria for detecting beam failure. The UE may then perform measurements on beam failure detection reference signals received from the base station and use the selected one or more criteria to detect beam failure. Because the UE may select the one or more criteria without signaling from the base station, control overhead between the UE and the base station may be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20230121399
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for techniques for beam failure detection and recovery. A UE may support autonomous determination of a beam failure timer for a beam failure procedure, such as a beam failure detection (BFD) timer for a BFD procedure or a beam failure recovery (BFR) timer for a BFR procedure. For example, a network entity may transmit reference signals to the UE that are associated with the beam failure procedure. For instance, the UE may measure the reference signals as part of a BFD procedure or may initiate a BFR procedure in response to receiving the reference signals. The UE may determine a timer value for the beam failure timer using, for example, a machine learning (ML) model or a mapping and may perform the beam failure procedure in accordance with the UE-determined beam failure timer.

  • Publication number: 20230125038
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for signaling mechanisms associated with reporting information associated with multiple beam failure indicator (BFI) types via a beam failure detection (BFD) report. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may measure a periodic reference signal as part of a BFD procedure and may report a BFI if the UE measures that the reference signal fails to satisfy a threshold signal strength or quality. The UE may further detect or classify each reported BFI as one of multiple BFI types and may store information associated with respective numbers of the multiple BFI types in accordance with the detection or classification. In scenarios in which the UE declares beam failure, the UE may transmit a BFD report including the information associated with the respective numbers of the multipole BFI types.

  • Publication number: 20230104716
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for enhancing beam failure indications and detections. In particular, the present disclosure provides techniques for identifying and indicating reasons associated with beam failures. For example, in aspects, a user equipment (UE) may evaluate multiple beam failure indicator (BFI) trigger conditions based on beam failure detection (BFD) reference signal (RS) measurements. The UE logs different types of BFIs based on the evaluating. If a logged number of BFIs exceeds a threshold value within a measurement period, the UE declares a beam failure and transmits, to a network entity, an indication of the beam failure and a reason for the beam failure based on the different types of BFIs detected.

  • Publication number: 20230102187
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may receive a periodic reference signal from a base station and may measure the periodic reference signal as part of a beam failure detection (BFD) procedure. To detect a beam failure, the UE may autonomously select a beam failure indicator (BFI) counting scheme from a set of BFI counting schemes and may increment a BFI count in accordance with the selected BFI counting scheme and based on measuring the reference signal. The different BFI counting schemes of the set of BFI counting schemes may feature different techniques or methods for incrementing the BFI count per one or more BFI reports. As such, the UE may selectively choose how to weight different sets of one or more BFI reports in terms of contribution to the BFI count, which may improve BFD detection at the UE.

  • Publication number: 20230076253
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for detection of beam failure and beam failure recovery. A user equipment (UE) may perform measurements on one or more reference signals for one or more beams. In the event that one of the beams has a measurement that indicates a potential beam failure, the UE may increment a beam failure count (BFC) at a physical layer of the UE, and start a BFC timer. In the event that the BFC reaches a threshold value prior to expiration of the BFC timer, the UE may trigger a switch to a different active beam, provide a beam failure indication (BFI) to a higher layer of the UE, or both. A higher layer at the UE may autonomously adjust a BFI threshold for a number of BFIs that are needed to trigger a beam failure declaration to the base station.

  • Publication number: 20230066874
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, control signaling indicating an activation of a beam failure detection (BFD) procedure for detecting beam failure on a per-beam basis for a set of beams. The UE may receive control signaling indicating BFD parameters for each beam to use in accordance with the BFD procedure. The UE may monitor for a set of reference signals via the set of beams and maintain, at a medium access control (MAC) layer, a separate beam failure indication (BFI) counter and a BFD timer for each beam. The MAC layer may receive the BFIs from a physical layer at the UE such that if the BFI counter for a beam satisfies a configured BFI threshold count before a configured BFD timing duration, the UE may transmit a beam failure recovery request to the base station for the beam.
