  • Patent number: 9264985
Abstract: Apparatus and methods of controlling call establishment are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine to establish a call. In an aspect, the UE may detect a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) access node and receive, from a Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) access node, WWAN load-related information. Based on UE call establishment rules and the WWAN load-related information, the UE may determine whether to establish the call on the WWAN access node or the WLAN access node. In another aspect, the UE may determine WLAN access node characteristics associated with a received signal from a WLAN access node. The UE may forward a call establishment request, including the WLAN access node characteristics to a WWAN access node. The UE may receive a redirection command to redirect the call establishment request to the WLAN access node.

  • Patent number: 9191867
Abstract: A method, apparatus, computer program product, and processing system provide for dynamic selection of a secondary serving cell among various available secondary serving cells, be they in the same frequency as the primary serving cell (as in SFDC-HSDPA), in a different frequency but in the same band as the primary serving cell (as in DC-HSDPA), or in a different band from the primary serving cell (as in DB-DC-HSDPA). Here, the UE may be preconfigured for each of the available secondary serving cells, and may receive a configuration message to select between one of them based on factors such UE battery consumption, CQIs corresponding to the available secondary serving cells, loading of the secondary serving cells, or UE power headroom limitations. Thus, an advanced UE capable of receiving the plurality of technologies may benefit from dynamically selecting the best available secondary serving cell in accordance with the factors.

  • Publication number: 20150326288
Abstract: Aspects described herein relate to selecting a rank for wireless communications using multiple transmit antenna layers. A first effective throughput achievable using a first rank and based at least in part on a first block error rate (BLER) associated with the first rank can be estimated along with a second effective throughput achievable using a second rank and based at least in part on a second BLER associated with the second rank. The first rank or second rank is selected to be used for transmitting communications over multiple transmit antenna layers based at least in part on comparing the first effective throughput to the second effective throughput, and the selection can be indicated to a transmitting entity from which the communications over the multiple transmit antenna layers are received.

  • Publication number: 20150326293
Abstract: Aspects for balancing power output on the plurality of antennas for the transmission of a transport block are disclosed. In accordance with the present disclosure, a transmitter may balance the power output on a plurality of transmit antennas in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system by having a precoded data block bypass a virtual antenna mapping of the overhead channels (e.g., control channels). Additionally or alternatively, the transmitter may balance the power output on the plurality of transmit antennas by applying an inverse mapping parameter during the precoding process to the transport block to generate a plurality of inverse mapped precoded data blocks. In some examples, the inverse mapping parameter may be an inverse of the mapping parameter. Thus, in accordance with the present disclosure, precoding a transport block may include selecting a precoding weight for each of the plurality of antennas from an unrestricted precoding weight set.

  • Patent number: 9179451
Abstract: Techniques of frequency spectrum usage in a wireless communication system include configuring two or more downlink carriers, each having a downlink carrier center frequency, to have a total occupied bandwidth that is constrained within an allocated downlink frequency spectrum. Further, the techniques include transmitting, to a user equipment (UE), two or more downlink carrier center frequency indicators that each identify a downlink carrier center frequency of each of the two or more downlink carriers. Also, the present techniques may include transmitting, to the UE, at least one uplink carrier center frequency indicator that at least relatively identifies at least one uplink carrier center frequency of at least one uplink carrier that is configured to have an independent, variable offset relative to one or more of the more than two downlink carriers. As such, these aspects allow new ways of squeezing carriers into the downlink while not impacting UE transmitter complexity.

  • Patent number: 9178578
Abstract: A base station receiver, a computer program product operable at a base station, and a method operable at a base station receiver, for receiving uplink transmit diversity transmissions utilizing a master/slave scheme at the receiver. One or more tracking loops, such as a searcher task, a time tracking loop, or a frequency tracking loop may be implemented at the base station receiver to determine compensation values, such as finger timings for a rake receiver or frequency compensation values, in accordance with characteristics of a first received pilot channel transmitted utilizing a first precoding weight vector. Here, corresponding compensation values may be derived for the reception of a secondary pilot channel transmitted utilizing an precoding weight vector orthogonal to the first precoding weight vector, simply based on those determined for the first pilot channel.

  • Publication number: 20150271816
Abstract: The disclosure provides for a compressed mode transmission gap in wireless communications. A user equipment (UE) may receiving a downlink dedicated physical channel (DPCH) having a slot-format and a spreading factor during a first compression interval. The downlink DPCH may not include a compressed-mode transmission gap during the first compression interval. The UE may receive the downlink DPCH having the same slot-format and the same spreading factor during a second compression interval. The UE may determine that the downlink DPCH includes a compressed-mode transmission gap during the second compression interval. A set of slots of the downlink DPCH during the transmission gap may be punctured. The UE may decode the downlink DPCH for the second compression interval based on a set of remaining slots received during the second compression interval. • Publication number: 20150271769
Abstract: The disclosure provides for reducing uplink control channel overhead at a user equipment (UE). The UE may determine that a total transmit power of the UE exceeds an allocated power. The UE may then scale a transmit power of a high-speed dedicated physical control channel (HS-DPCCH) relative to a dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH) in response to the determination that the UE is power limited. The UE may scale the transmit power of the HS-DPCCH when there is no downlink activity as determined, for example, by expiration of a timer. In an aspect, the UE may transmit an indication that the UE is power limited, for example, by using a most-significant bit of a transport format combination index. In another aspect, the UE may receive an indication that a downlink transmission is imminent and, in response, the UE may transmit the HS-DPCCH without scaling its corresponding transmit power.
