  • Patent number: 8965455
Abstract: A method for reducing energy consumption of a base station is described. A first pilot channel is transmitted via a first antenna using a first downlink power amplifier. A second pilot channel is transmitted via a second antenna using a second downlink power amplifier. It is determined that no multiple-input and multiple-output users are in a cell corresponding to the base station. The second pilot channel is shut off.

  • Patent number: 8965426
Abstract: Wireless user equipment (UE) operating in a wireless communication system may operate in a state, for example, the CELL_FACH state in UMTS, that does not allow for soft handoff from one cell to another. This inability to engage in soft handover may lead to intercell interference at a non-serving cell when the UE transmits on its uplink in close proximity to the non-serving cell. Therefore, provided in the present disclosure is method of wireless communication, which includes receiving a neighbor cell identification set indicating one or more neighbor cells, receiving a relative grant channel resource index corresponding to a relative grant channel shared by at least one of the one or more neighbor cells, detecting intercell interference associated with a user equipment (UE) in the one or more neighbor cells, and transmitting a non-serving relative grant message to the UE on the relative grant channel.

  • Publication number: 20150045077
Abstract: The present disclosure presents a method and apparatus for handling primary scrambling codes (PSC) in a wireless network. For example, the disclosure presents a method for detecting, by a user equipment (UE) of a plurality of UEs, a PSC in search windows with different timing offsets, wherein the different timing offsets correspond to a plurality of small cells sharing the PSC in a coverage area of a macro cell, and transmitting, by the UE, a plurality of measurement reports corresponding to the different timing offsets. • Publication number: 20150030005
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus receives a transmission and transmits an Ack regarding the transmission. A packet transmitting apparatus begins a transmission of a packet and receives an Ack regarding the transmission. The Ack may indicate early decoding of a packet comprised in the transmission. This enables the packet transmitting apparatus to cease transmission of the packet prior to transmission of the entire packet. The Ack may be transmitted using at least one of applying a pre-configured boost to the transmit power of at least a portion of a slot in which the Ack is transmitted, modulating a codeword pattern onto the symbols that would normally be transmitted in the slot, and transmitting the Ack on DPDCH.

  • Patent number: 8929475
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for uplink MIMO transmissions in a wireless communication system. In some particular aspects, an E-TFC selection process for selecting a transport format combination for an uplink MIMO transmission may take certain steps in the case that a UE is power- or buffer-limited. For example, in a rank 2 transmission, non-scheduled data is allocated only to the primary stream. If the allocated non-scheduled data is less than the determined primary stream transport block size, scheduled data is allocated to the primary stream in an amount not to exceed the determined primary stream TBS. Finally, scheduled data is allocated to the secondary stream in an amount not to exceed the determined secondary stream TBS.

  • Patent number: 8923171
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for reducing UE's power consumption by controlling early decoding boundary. In one aspect, a UE is configured to receive a data or voice frame from a base station. The UE selects one or more quality metrics for determining decoding boundary of the received frame and computes the selected one or more quality metrics. The UE then determines a decoding boundary for the frame based on one or more computed quality metrics. The UE then decodes the received frames at the determined decoding boundary and determines whether the decoding of the frame was successful. If the early decoding of the frame was successful, the UE may terminate reception of the frame. If the early decoding of the frame was unsuccessful, the UE may adjust the decoding boundary and decodes the frame at the adjusted boundary.

  • Publication number: 20140362748
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described for selecting or identifying a first band number from one or more additional band numbers mapped to a frequency division duplexing (FDD) band used in universal mobile telecommunications (UMTS). The one or more additional band numbers may be different from a second band number assigned to the FDD band. Each of the one or more additional band numbers may correspond to a different factor N (e.g., N=2, N=4) for use in UMTS scaling. A signal indicative of the first band number may be transmitted to, for example, a network entity, where the signal indicates support of UMTS scaling operations in the FDD band using the factor N corresponding to the first band number.

  • Patent number: 8897267
Abstract: One feature provides for an apparatus, system, and method for enabling softer handover by a user equipment in a non-dedicated channel state, such as Cell_FACH state. A user equipment communicates with a base station via a first sector of the base station, and receives a preamble signature partition list. The user equipment determines that a second sector of the base station is available for softer handover, and selects a preamble signature from the preamble signature partition list corresponding to a softer handover configuration associated with the first sector and the second sector. The user equipment may then transmit a softer handover initiation message that includes the preamble signature while in a non-dedicated channel state, such as Cell_FACH.

  • Patent number: 8891387
Abstract: In a communication system, user equipment (UE) conditionally performs uplink transmit diversity (ULTD) either by Switched Antenna Transmit Diversity (SATD) or Beamforming Transmit Diversity (BFTD) using a first antenna and a second antenna. Either a serving node or the UE determines that uplink transmit diversity is conditionally authorized. Either a serving node or the UE measures a value. The UE transmits using ULTD in response to determining that an enabling condition based on the value is satisfied. The UE can also disable uplink transmit diversity in response to determining that a disabling condition based on the value is satisfied. The disabling condition comprises a disabling threshold that equals the enabling condition comprising an enabling threshold with a threshold adjustment for hysteresis.

  • Publication number: 20140334318
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for determining available uplink bandwidth as an achievable throughput for a link. An available link capacity of a link with a cell for a user equipment is estimated based on a communication quality measured in the cell. An available fraction of cell resources for the user equipment over the link is also estimated based at least in part on received assistance information. An available bandwidth of the cell is then estimated as an achievable throughput for the user equipment over the link as a function of the estimated available link capacity and the estimated available fraction of cell resources. Moreover, a network procedure can be performed based at least in part on comparing the achievable throughput to one or more thresholds.

  • Publication number: 20140321286
Abstract: Systems and methods for dynamically adjusting the transmission time interval (TTI) for a communications system are presented. The described aspects provide for dynamically adjusting the TTI in a communication session between a base station or nodeB and a wireless device or user equipment between a shorter TTI, which can provide increased data throughput and lower power consumption, and a longer TTI, which can provide more rugged communication link connections. By dynamically adjusting the TTI, the communications link can be optimized for the given communication channel conditions. Determinations, based on indicia related to the communications system conditions, can be employed in dynamic TTI adjustment. These determinations can be formed centrally at the Radio Network Controller (RNC), at the RNC supplemented with user equipment (UE) available information, or formed in a distributed manner between the RNC and UE across a communications system.
