  • Publication number: 20030202142
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device comprising a substrate which has an organic material film (e.g. a leveling layer, or an alignment film) and a conductive oxide film (e.g. an electrode) covering at least a part of the organic material film both formed on an inner surface thereof facing a liquid crystal layer, the present invention provides the conductive oxide film formed at a temperature being neither higher than a thermal decomposition temperature of the organic material film nor lower than a heat deflection temperature of the organic material film, so as to prevent blebs from foaming from the organic material film and appearing in the liquid crystal layer even after a long term storage of the liquid crystal display device or even external force applied to the liquid crystal display device.

  • Patent number: 6636207
Abstract: The invention provides a first pair of bit lines BM and {overscore (BM)} that read data from a specified one of memory cells in a memory cell column, and a second pair of bit lines BS and {overscore (BS)} that write data in another specified one of the memory cells in the memory cell column include a display read line that successively reads out display data from the memory cell column. As viewed in a plan view, the display read line is disposed between the pair of bit lines BS and {overscore (BS)}. Potentials of signals that are transmitted through the pair of bit lines BS and {overscore (BS)} are in a mutually opposite relationship. Therefore, even when coupling capacitors are formed between the pair of bit lines BS and {overscore (BS)} and the display read line, the charges that are charged and discharged between the capacitances and the display read line are offset, and therefore the signal potential on the display read line does not deteriorate.

  • Publication number: 20020075433
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device comprising, a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer interposed between the pair of substrates, and at least one alignment film formed on a surface thereof confronting the liquid crystal layer, an optical property of the liquid crystal display device is improved by providing a moderate elasticity to the alignment film. In one of the liquid crystal display devices, the alignment film indicates a modulus of elasticity of not less than 2 GPa (2×109N/m2) being measured with a measurement error of ±GPa at temperature of 55° C., including a fluctuation of ±5° C. According to this property of the alignment film, sticking images appearing in and deteriorating the display quality of the liquid crystal display device are drastically suppressed.

  • Publication number: 20020054252
Abstract: The irregularities of coloring concentration which is generated between dyed media when a color filter substrate which is prepared in a manufacturing method of a liquid crystal display device is manufactured by supplying ink to dyed media formed on a main surface of the color filter substrate using an ink jet method. In the present invention, as color filter ink which is supplied to the dyed media formed on the color filter substrate using the inkjet method, liquid which contains dye which colors the dyed media, solvent (for example, water) which has an affinity for the dye, a volatility-adjusting agent (for example, glycerin) which lowers the volatility of the ink to a level below the volatility of the solvent, and a dyeing-promoter agent (for example, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone) which exhibits a higher affinity for the dye and the dyed media than the volatility adjusting agent. Then, the dyed media is colored with this ink.

  • Patent number: 6337728
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device capable of preventing occurrence of display irregularity due to movement of spherical spacer materials. The liquid crystal display device includes a pixel electrode and counter electrode that are formed on a liquid crystal-side surface of one transparent substrate of respective transparent substrates disposed opposing each other with a liquid crystal being laid therebetween, wherein the transmissivity of light transmitting between this pixel electrode and the counter electrode is controlled by twisting of molecules of the liquid crystal as caused by an electric field generated between the pixel electrode and counter electrode. In the liquid crystal display device, spacer materials are provided between respective ones of said transparent substrates. These spacers are fixed and disposed on an insulating layer underlying an orientation film which is in contact with said liquid crystal on the one transparent substrate side.

  • Patent number: 6295110
Abstract: A polarized light irradiation method for achieving both wide view-field angles and display uniformity with less display irregularity as well as an apparatus for use in attaining this polarized light irradiation method. After reshaping output light from a light source 100 into a beam pattern BP, a polarized light separation plate 108 is used to separate therefrom only P-polarized wave components while simultaneously causing the polarizing axis of the separated P-polarized wave components to be identical to the short side direction of the rectangular beam pattern BP thereby letting it pass through an organic high-molecular or polymeric film acting as an optical radiation surface 110 for addition of a liquid crystal orientation controllability thereto.

  • Patent number: 6275279
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display panel, the shrinkage of an end-scaling material for sticking a pair of substrates together is prevented or relaxed to restrain peeling of the end-sealing material from the substrates, thereby preventing any leakage of a liquid crystal and penetration of contaminants. A liquid crystal display device is assembled by bonding together a pair of substrates, which are opposed to each other across a predetermined gap and at least one of which has an electrode group formed over a surface opposed to the other substrate, with a sealing material along their peripheries excluding a liquid crystal filling port, and then sealing the liquid crystal filling port with an end-sealing material after the filling of the liquid crystal and hermetically sealing the liquid crystal in the gap between both substrates. In the liquid crystal display device, a resin which constitutes the end-sealing material contains particulates of average particle size of 0.1 &mgr;m to 3.

  • Publication number: 20010007733
Abstract: After forming a black matrix which defines pixel regions on a substrate, dyed substrate layers of photo hardening property are formed. By irradiating ultraviolet rays to the dyed substrate layers from the back of the substrate and by developing, ink reservoirs which use the black matrix as partition walls are formed. The dyeing material such as the dye is supplied to these ink reservoirs by an ink jet system. Due to these partition walls, there is no possibility that the dyeing material scatters to the neighboring or adjacent pixel regions to cause the mixed color. Further, since the filters having a sufficient thickness can be formed in the ink reservoirs, the surface flatness of the color filters can be sufficiently ensured without coating the thick overcoat layer.
