Abstract: A system and method of accessing digital video broadcasts within an information handling system is disclosed. In one form, a digital video broadcast processing system can include a digital video broadcast receiver module operable to process a first digital video broadcast data received within a multiple channel digital video broadcast signal and to output the first digital video broadcast data to an interconnect bus of a computer system. The digital video broadcast processing system can also include a communication interface operable to be removeably coupled to an interconnect bus interface of the computer system. The communication interface can be operable to communicate the first digital video broadcast data, including an interconnect dependent data format, from the digital video broadcast receiver module to a digital video processing application of the computer system.

Abstract: A method for managing power to an information handling system (IHS) is disclosed wherein the method includes providing a battery and an external power supply operable to supply power to the IHS. The method also includes providing an application programming interface (API) to the IHS, wherein the API is configured to monitor a first parameter and a second parameter. The method further includes supplying power to the IHS via the external power supply if the first parameter reaches a first threshold level and supplying power to the IHS via the battery if the second parameter reaches a second threshold level. An information handling system (IHS) is further disclosed including an external power supply, a battery, and a controller operable to select between the external power supply and the battery to supply power to the IHS.

Abstract: A client hosted virtualization system (CHVS) includes a processor to execute code, a component, and a non-volatile memory. The non volatile memory includes BIOS code and code to implement a virtualization manager. The virtualization manager is operable to initialize the CHVS, launch a virtual machine on the CHVS, and assign the component to the virtual machine, such that the virtual machine has control of the component. The CHVS is configurable to execute the BIOS and not the virtualization manager, or to execute the virtualization manager and not the BIOS.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium are disclosed for automatically provisioning a virtual image on a target system. A service operating system comprising a virtual machine monitor and a personalization agent is installed on a target system. A set of digital assets entitlement data is provided along with an associated set of digital assets data contained in a virtual software image, which is then installed on the target system by the personalization agent.

The virtualization manager initializes the client hosted virtualization system, authenticates a virtual machine image, launches the virtual machine based on the image, receives a transaction from the virtual machine targeted to the FVE storage device, sends the transaction to the FVE storage device, receives a response from the FVE storage device, and sends the first response to the first virtual machine. The client hosted virtualization system is configurable to execute the BIOS or the virtualization manager.

The memory stores a first application associated with a first platform of a plurality of platforms, and a second application associated with a second platform of the plurality of platforms. The workload manager is configured to receive rights and policies for the first application, and rights and policies for the second application; to include the rights and policies for the first application as metadata in the first application, and the rights and policies for the second application as metadata in the second application; to receive a selection of the first application, to determine whether features for the first application are currently running; if the features for the first application are not currently running, create a first virtual machine having the first platform, and the rights and policies for the first application; and to provide an instance of the first application on the first virtual machine.

Abstract: A method for registering and initiating a pre-boot environment for enabling partitions. The method provides a basic input output system (CIOS) with an application program interface (API) that accesses a Logical Clock Address (LCA) sector number when a boot configuration flag is set, the LCA sector number stores an operating environment manager which then boots the information handling system to an appropriate partition.

Abstract: A smart cart for automatically managing a plurality of information handling systems. The system provides a plurality of functions. For example, in certain embodiments, the system provides one or more of security authentication for distributing the notebooks, automatic asset tracking functionality; identification of notebook charge status; provides identification of asset information (e.g., an asset tag number, a serial number or a computer name); network access to push patch updates at night when units are not in use; and charging control to optimize system availability and prevent AC input circuit overload.

Abstract: A system for point of sale personalization of an information handling system (IHS), includes one or more subsystems to allow a customer to access a server to select a model of IHS, allow the customer to choose an operating system for the IHS, allow the customer to choose hardware for the IHS, simulate the IHS to the customer including the operating system and the hardware, receive personalization data from the customer, store the personalization data, assemble the IHS, including the hardware and installing the operating system, and download the personalization data to the IHS.

Abstract: A method and system which enable preconfiguration of an information handling system to function as a media hub. In certain embodiments, during the preconfiguration a customer can select media services such as television services (e.g., Cable TV or Dish Network Service provider) and an information handling system manufacturer can then preconfigure the information handling system during a factory install process for the selected television provider. Additionally, the preconfiguration process can load media guides onto the preconfigured information handing systems during the factory install process. Additionally, in certain embodiments, if a remote control for a receiver is found, then the remote control settings can be preinstalled onto the information handling system. When a user receives the preconfigured information handling system, all that is necessary to setup the system is to couple an IR emitter to the receiver.

Abstract: A method of coupling multiple information handling systems (IHSs) through a communications stack includes establishing connection between a first IHS and a second IHS at a layer 1 of the communications stack. The method further includes receiving a message indicating a layer 3 protocol of the second IHS and determining whether to establish the connection between the first IHS and the second IHS at a layer 2 of the communications stack, based on the layer 3 protocol.

Abstract: A system for point of sale personalization of an information handling system (IHS), includes one or more subsystems to allow a customer to access a server to select a model of IHS, allow the customer to choose an operating system for the IHS, allow the customer to choose hardware for the IHS, simulate the IHS to the customer including the operating system and the hardware, receive personalization data from the customer, store the personalization data, assemble the IHS, including the hardware and installing the operating system, and download the personalization data to the IHS.

Abstract: A client hosted virtualization system (CHVS) includes a processor to execute code, a security processor, a component that includes a certificate, and a non-volatile memory. The non-volatile memory includes BIOS code for the CHVS and virtualization manager code to initialize the CHVS, launch a virtual machine on the CHVS, and authenticate the component with the security processor by determining that the certificate is valid. The CHVS is configurable to execute the first code and not the second code, or to execute the second code and not the first code.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing booting of an information handling system are disclosed. A method for managing the booting of an information handling system may include receiving user input for booting an information handling system to a first partition or a second partition. The user input may be used to determine whether the received user input is for booting to the first partition or to the second partition. In response to determining that the received user input is for booting to the second partition, a determination may be made whether the information handling system is authorized to boot to the second partition. In response to determining that the information handling system is authorized to boot to the second partition, the information handling system may be booted to the second partition. In response to determining that the information handling system is not authorized to boot to the second partition, the information handling system may be booted to the first partition.

Abstract: A client hosted virtualization system (CHVS) has a non-volatile memory that includes BIOS code and virtualization manager code that operates to initialize the CHVS and to launch a virtual machine. The CHVS establishes a secure communication channel with a client update system via a network interface, receives an update to the virtualization manager code, authenticates the update and overwrites the non-volatile memory with the update. The CHVS is configurable to execute the BIOS and not virtualization manager, or to execute the virtualization manager and not the BIOS.

Abstract: A client hosted virtualization system includes a task oriented device, a processor, and non-volatile memory with BIOS code and virtualization manager code. The virtualization manager initializes the client hosted virtualization system, authenticates a virtual machine image, launches the virtual machine based on the image, receives a transaction targeted to the task oriented device, prioritizes the transaction, sends the transaction to the task oriented device, receives a response from the task oriented device, and sends the response to the virtual machine. The client hosted virtualization system is configurable to execute the BIOS or the virtualization manager.

The client hosted virtualization system is configurable to execute the BIOS or the virtualization manager.
