Abstract: A system and method for accessing a hidden partition during a boot sequence is disclosed. An information handling system can include a basic input output system (BIOS) that can be operable to access a master boot record (MBR) of a storage device. The digital media storage device can include a fixed number of visible partitions and at least one hidden partition. The information handling system can further include a processor operable to detect a boot event operably associated with initiating a request to access contents that can be stored within an associated hidden partition of the storage device. The information handing system can also include a memory that can be operable to store at least a portion of the contents of the hidden partition. The contents can be stored upon accessing the hidden partition using an association established between one of the fixed number of visible partitions and the hidden partition.

Abstract: A method for sharing Bluetooth pairs across multiple operating system partitions. The method includes the steps of pairing a first operating system partition with a Bluetooth enabled device; determining when a memory of an information handling system includes an additional operating system partition; and, pairing the additional operating system partition with the Bluetooth enabled device when the additional operating system partition is present.

Abstract: A system for enabling throttling of resources, including central processing units (CPUs) and peripherals, on a virtualization-enabled information handling system such as a CE type information handling system is set forth. With the system for enabling throttling of resources, each virtual appliance within an information handling system is configured with its resource needs.

Abstract: A method for registering and initiating a pre-boot environment for enabling partitions. The method provides a basic input output system (CIOS) with an application program interface (API) that accesses a Logical Clock Address (LCA) sector number when a boot configuration flag is set, the LCA sector number stores an operating environment manager which then boots the information handling system to an appropriate partition.

Abstract: An intelligent system for determining an optimal partition size on an information handling system. The system provides customers with an improved customer experience by offering a partition that is sized only as large as needed according to optional/locked/trial data downloaded for that system.

Abstract: A portable information handling system (IHS) is disclosed wherein the system includes a cover, a primary display disposed on the cover and an auxiliary display coupled to the cover, wherein the auxiliary display is movable between a viewable position and a closed position. The system also includes a switch coupled to the auxiliary display, wherein the switch is adapted to place the auxiliary display in an operational state in the open position and in a non-operational state in the closed position.

Abstract: A method includes receiving content and a license to the content at a storage system, receiving a request from a user system for the storage system to send the content and license to the user system, and sending the content and license from the storage system to the user system. Another method includes requesting content and a license to the content, receiving the content and license at a user system, requesting from the user system that the content and license be sent to a storage system, and requesting from the user system that the storage system send the content item to a second user system. In one embodiment, code could be used to perform a method that includes requesting content and a license to the content from a content provider, storing the content and license at a user system and a storage system, and requesting that the storage system send the content to another user system.

Abstract: A simple to customize IT infrastructure architecture. The IT infrastructure architecture includes a general-purpose virtualized architecture platform. The IT infrastructure architecture is well suited for delivering simple pre-packaged software solutions to the small business segment as plug and play type appliances. In certain preferred embodiments, the IT infrastructure architecture includes a virtual appliance memory device such as a virtual appliance universal serial bus (USB) key. The IT infrastructure architecture uses embedded server virtualization technology to host business applications as a virtual appliance.

Abstract: Configuring a security application includes determining whether user preferences for the security application are pre-loaded in an information handling system (IHS) received by a user. If the user preferences have not been pre-loaded a request to receive the user preferences corresponding to the user and the security application is sent to a provider of the security application. The request includes a unique identifier for accessing the user preferences for the security application. The user preferences, which have been previously configured by the user for another IHS, are stored in a predefined format and are accessible to any requester providing the unique identifier. The provider provides the user preferences corresponding to the unique identifier.

Abstract: A system for point of sale personalization of an information handling system (IHS), includes one or more subsystems to allow a customer to access a server to select a model of IHS, allow the customer to choose an operating system for the IHS, allow the customer to choose hardware for the IHS, simulate the IHS to the customer including the operating system and the hardware, receive personalization data from the customer, store the personalization data, assemble the IHS, including the hardware and installing the operating system, and download the personalization data to the IHS.

Abstract: A method for enabling instant on access of productivity content on an information handling system. The method includes providing the information handling system with a first operating system partition and a second operating system partition wherein the first operating system partition is a main operating system partition and the second operating system partition is an instant on operating system partition, storing a synchronization management module within the first operating system partition, storing a productivity module within the second operating system partition, synchronizing productivity content stored on the first operating system partition with the productivity module via the synchronization management module, and accessing the synchronized productivity content via the productivity module of the second operating system partition.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing booting of an information handling system are disclosed. A method for managing the booting of an information handling system may include receiving user input for booting an information handling system to a first partition or a second partition. The user input may be used to determine whether the received user input is for booting to the first partition or to the second partition. In response to determining that the received user input is for booting to the second partition, a determination may be made whether the information handling system is authorized to boot to the second partition. In response to determining that the information handling system is authorized to boot to the second partition, the information handling system may be booted to the second partition. In response to determining that the information handling system is not authorized to boot to the second partition, the information handling system may be booted to the first partition.

Abstract: A method and system which enable preconfiguration of an information handling system to function as a media hub. In certain embodiments, during the preconfiguration a customer can select media services such as television services (e.g., Cable TV or Dish Network Service provider) and an information handling system manufacturer can then preconfigure the information handling system during a factory install process for the selected television provider. Additionally, the preconfiguration process can load media guides onto the preconfigured information handing systems during the factory install process. Additionally, in certain embodiments, if a remote control for a receiver is found, then the remote control settings can be preinstalled onto the information handling system. When a user receives the preconfigured information handling system, all that is necessary to setup the system is to couple an IR emitter to the receiver.

Abstract: A system and method of accessing digital video broadcasts within an information handling system is disclosed. In one form, a digital video broadcast processing system can include a digital video broadcast receiver module operable to process a first digital video broadcast data received within a multiple channel digital video broadcast signal and to output the first digital video broadcast data to an interconnect bus of a computer system. The digital video broadcast processing system can also include a communication interface operable to be removably coupled to an interconnect bus interface of the computer system. The communication interface can be operable to communicate the first digital video broadcast data, including an interconnect dependent data format, from the digital video broadcast receiver module to a digital video processing application of the computer system.

Abstract: A system and method of accessing and recording digital video broadcasts is disclosed. In one form, a method can include receiving a multicast digital video broadcast (DVB) signal and demodulating the multicast DVB signal to access a plurality of DVB data streams. The method can include initiating a processing the plurality of DVB data streams using a first DVB decapsulation module to detect a first DVB data stream and a second DVB data stream. The method can include detecting a first index frame within the first DVB data stream and detecting a second index frame within the second DVB data stream. The method can include storing a second index frame pointer identifying the second index frame and initiating an outputting of the first DVB data stream to a first display window.

Abstract: A system and method of enabling digital video broadcast access within an information handling system is disclosed. In one form, a method of enabling access to digital video broadcasts can include enabling use of a digital video broadcast (DVB) service access module within an information handling system. The method can also include determining an availability of a first DVB carrier using the DVB service access module and a DVB receiver module of the information handling system. The method can further include enabling access to the first DVB carrier, and receiving a first DVB signal including a first DVB channel data. The method can also include outputting the first DVB channel data using a media application of the information handling system.

Abstract: An information handling system is provided with an intelligent boot service which addresses and resolves unbootable system scenarios. The intelligent boot service detects and corrects adverse events before booting into the operating system. The intelligent boot service architecture is extensible to add newer events and is extensible to include extensible firmware interface (EFI) technology.

Abstract: A method for sharing Bluetooth pairs across multiple operating system partitions. The method includes the steps of pairing a first operating system partition with a Bluetooth enabled device; determining when a memory of an information handling system includes an additional operating system partition; and, pairing the additional operating system partition with the Bluetooth enabled device when the additional operating system partition is present.

Abstract: A mechanism via which system state changes can be detected and corrected automatically prior to a customer initiated boot. The mechanism is extensible to address newly added or discovered system state changes that result in a locked condition. The mechanism detects and corrects adverse events before booting into the operating system.
