  • Patent number: 6480255
Abstract: An image display area is defined in a main surface of a first substrate, and a terminal area is defined outside the display area. A plurality of first bus lines are arranged on the display area of the main surface of the first substrate. A first insulating layer covers the first bus lines on the main surface of the first substrate. The first bus lines correspond to external terminals on the terminal area of the first substrate, respectively. The external terminals are connected electrically with the corresponding first bus lines, respectively, through first contact holes that pass through the first insulating layer to the upper surface of the first bus lines. The external terminals are covered with a protective insulating layer in such a manner that their ends near the border of the first substrate remain uncovered.

  • Patent number: 5811136
Abstract: A screw-in-plunger injection apparatus is provided which is advantageously used for molding either a large-size or a small-size product. The injection apparatus is capable of selectively carrying out a plunger-type injection operation and an inline-screw-type injection operation. In the plunger-type injection operation, an injection plunger 12 and a screw 10 are advanced in an injection cylinder 14, so that a melted resin fed to a storage space provided on the side of one axial end of the injection plunger 12 is injected. In the inline-screw-type injection operation, a surface of the axial end of the injection plunger 12 is held in abutment with the injection cylinder 14, so that the storage space is reduced to provide a reduced storage space to and from which the melted resin is fed by the rotation of the screw and is injected by the movement of the screw in an axial direction thereof.

  • Patent number: 5801802
Abstract: First and second substrates are disposed facing each other. Drive wiring lines including signal and control lines are formed on the first substrate on the side facing the second substrate. A pixel electrode is formed on the first substrate in the pixel region and on the side facing the second substrate. A switching element is provided for each pixel electrode. A common electrode is formed on the second substrate on the side facing the first substrate. A liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between the first and second substrates. An alignment film is formed on one of the first and second substrates on the side facing the other substrate. A pre-tilt angle is imparted so that the ends of each liquid crystal molecule in the central region of the liquid crystal layer near the drive wiring line tilt away from the drive wiring line when a voltage is applied across each pixel electrode and the common electrode.

  • Patent number: 5796458
Abstract: An element division liquid crystal display device with a liquid crystal inserted between first and second plates having alignment films, respectively. The alignment film of at least the first plate includes a single layer of alignment material having a plurality of first and second adjacent domains A and B and is continuously rubbed in one direction through first and second minute domains A and B. A further treatment, different from a rubbing treatment, is effected to the single alignment layer so that a pretilt angle of the liquid crystal contacting the alignment layer at one of the first and second domains is different from the pretilt angle of the liquid crystal contacting the alignment layer at the other domain. The further treatment includes one of the steps of irradiating with UV light, changing the chemical components of the material of the alignment layer, heating or changing the precuring process.
