  • Patent number: 6817441
Abstract: A shape memory foam member is disclosed. A coefficient of water absorption of the shape memory foam member is in the range between 0.01 g/cm3 and 0.2 g/cm3 in a non-compressed state. The shape memory foam member is compressed with heating; cooled with keeping the shape memory foam member in the compressed state; and released from the compressive pressure on the shape memory foam member after cooling. The original shape of the shape memory foam member is substantially recovered by heating.

  • Publication number: 20040188190
Abstract: In order to provide a shim structure capable of controlling the generation of a voltage by the difference in the standard electrode potentials specific to metals between an aluminum caliper and a metal plate, the shim structure abutting against the backing plate of a friction material, which forms a disc pad, is constituted by providing rubber layers on both sides of an aluminum alloy plate. Since the aluminum alloy plate is used for the metal plate constituting the shim structure, even when a steel caliper is replaced with the aluminum caliper, the generation of the voltage generated between metals is controlled to a lesser degree, thereby preventing corrosion of the caliper arising therefrom.

  • Publication number: 20040164499
Abstract: A shape memory foam material is obtained by impregnating a base foam material in a thermoplastic substance, heating and compressing the same at a temperature the same as or higher than the softening temperature of a thermoplastic substance as well as less than the softening temperature of the base foam material, cooling down while retaining the compressed state, and releasing the pressure after the cooling operation. The compressed state of the shape memory foam material is retained in a room temperature by a hardened product of a thermoplastic substance existing at least in the surface layer part thereof. The compressed state is released by softening the hardened product by heating. Moreover, a soundproof cover for an automobile engine is obtained using this shape memory foam.

  • Publication number: 20040113651
Abstract: It is intended to provide a terminal control device and a universal serial bus system capable of achieving stable system operation wherein the termination control device controls termination considering propagation delay time required for bus voltage level to shift to termination voltage when a universal serial bus system is terminated and an erroneous detection due to propagation delay time of voltage level shifting is avoided, accordingly. A pull-up start signal PU is inputted to a mask counter 11, timing operation is conducted in a manner of count operation. As a result of count operation, mask count signals MC are outputted to a comparator 13. Masking-time setting signals SC are inputted to the comparator 13. The mask count signals MC and the masking-time setting signals SC are compared to calculate a predetermined length of masking time that begins with start of pull-up. During this masking time, detection of SE0 state or bus-reset state is masked.

  • Publication number: 20040081755
Abstract: The invention provides a method of processing an inner surface of a bearing having a cylindrical shape which bearing includes a resin layer composed mainly of a synthetic resin as the inner surface, the method improving roughness of the inner surface and dimensional accuracy of an inner diameter of the bearing without cutting the inner surface. According to the method, the bearing is press-fitted into a jig and then the jig is mounted on a chuck. Next, a mandrel having a cylindrical bar shape is inserted into an inner diameter portion of the bearing and then the mandrel is heated by a heater up to 250° C., for example. The mandrel is expanded due to thermal expansion by the heating so that the inner surface, i.e., a surface of the resin layer is pressed by a press face of a peripheral surface of the mandrel.

  • Publication number: 20040058828
Abstract: In prior art, the wear resistance and frictional properties of a sliding member are improved by adding bismuth, an alkaline earth metal salt or the like, but not lead, to a polytetrafluoroethylene used as a base resin, in view of the undesirable influences of lead on the environment. However, a further improved wear resistance at a high PV value has been desirable. In the present invention, a sliding member having excellent wear resistance and frictional properties even when used at a high PV value can be obtained by using a thermosetting resin as a base resin in a proportion of 50 to 80 vol % and adding thereto a PTFE with a molecular weight of 3,000,000 or more in a proportion of 10 to 40 vol % and bismuth and/or a bismuth alloy in a proportion of 1 to 20 vol %.

  • Publication number: 20030185475
Abstract: There is provided a double-sided sliding thrust bearing of a plate shape adapted to be in sliding contact with a counterpart on each of both faces of the thrust bearing, comprising a bearing structure provided with a plate-shaped base member having an anchor effect on each of both faces thereof, and a sliding layer having a thickness not less than 30 &mgr;m on each of the faces of said base member which sliding layer is made of a thermosetting resin-containing material. By making the thickness of the sliding layer 10 not less than 30 &mgr;m, it becomes possible for the thrust bearing 1 to slide shoes for a longer time even when being used in a dry state and the sliding layer 10 comes to be hardly peeled off from the base member 2 because of the anchor effect of the base member 2. Further, the mechanical strength and thermal conductivity of the thrust bearing 1 can be improved by the base member 2 located between the sliding layers 10.
