  • Publication number: 20010010605
Abstract: A disk drive with a retry control function of executing a retry operation when an error has occurred in a read/write operation is disclosed. According to a command from a host system, a CPU determines the upper limit of a read/write operation time for each data sector on the basis of the access range specified by the command and the time limit of the command process. Furthermore, the CPU executes a retry operation on the data sector where an error has occurred in the read/write operation. In this case, the CPU performs control so as to end or stop the retry operation within the time limited by the upper limit. The CPU, even if it cannot correct an error by the retry operation, makes the data including the error valid and starts to access the next data sector.

  • Patent number: 6030108
Abstract: The light transmission hose included in the waterproof lighting apparatus according to the present invention is of a watertight structure, so it can easily be used as laid in or on water without any special protective means. Since the light source is installed in a location apart from water, it can be easily maintained and lamp replacement is also easy. By selecting a desired one of the kinds of light source, the illumination can be changed, resulting in a great effect of illumination. If provided with a powerful light source, the waterproof lighting apparatus according to the present invention can be used for warning any hazardous area to walkers, bicycle riders, car drivers, ships, aircraft and the like vehicles. Even if the lighting apparatus is located far away, the light from the light-emitting portion permits the walker or vehicle driver to readily be aware of a hazardous area.

  • Patent number: 5333227
Abstract: An optical waveguide hose includes a hollow tubular cladding, a fluid core in the cladding, the fluid having a higher index of refraction than the cladding, and sealing plugs mated with opposite end openings of the cladding. In one form, the core fluid is filled in the cladding under positive pressure. In another form, a sheath of a gas barrier material encloses the outer periphery of the cladding. The pressurized fluid core or the gas barrier sheath prevents air from penetrating into the core, allowing the hose to maintain its light transmission function.

  • Patent number: 5143763
Abstract: An oxygen scavenger comprises an oxygen absorbent composition and an oxygen permeable film covering the oxygen absorbent composition and including an asymmetric porous membrane whose outer surface portion in the thickness direction of the asymmetric porous membrane is formed as a dense skin layer. Since the dense skin layer is very thin, the oxygen permeability to the oxygen absorbent composition through the oxygen permeable film can be maintained sufficiently high. At the same time, since the dense skin layer has a sufficiently high barrier property as well as a high oxygen permeability, contact of the substances stored in a container with the oxygen absorbent composition can be surely prevented. The substances stored in the container attached with the oxygen scavenger can be prevented from deterioration due to the oxygen present in the container by a high oxygen absorption ability of the scavenger, and maintained in a good or fresh condition for a long term.

  • Patent number: 4814132
Abstract: A process for preparing a thin film having a large area. A casting solution of a film-forming material and a solvent is fed to the surface of a liquid substrate immiscible with the solution by utilizing interfacial tension. Spontaneous spreading of the casting solution occurs across the surface of the liquid substrate and evaporation of the solvent produces a thin film on the liquid surface which is continuously collected. The feed of the casting solution to the surface of the substrate is at least either a material which shows selective wettability for the casting solution in preference to the liquid substrate or a structure capable of developing capillarity.
