  • Patent number: 4703898
Abstract: As a grinder is being rotated, an outer circumference thereof and a metal block of raw material are pressed at determined speed or under determined pressure, and the grinder cuts the block on its surface so as to generate short metal fibers of not more than about 15 .mu.m calculated as diameter and not more than about 400 .mu.m in length by contacting between each of abrasive grains held in a matrix of the grinder and the surface of the raw material.

  • Patent number: 4640156
Abstract: Short metal fibers are directly produced from a work metal block. The product fibers are very thin and short, e.g., 200 .mu.m in diameter and 20 mm in length to the maximum. A bar like or pillar like metal bar is rotated, to which an elastic cutting tool is contacted. The entering width of cutting edge corresponds to length of fiber to be obtained. The tool is effected with fine feed and at the same time positively generated with self excited vibrations. The self excited vibration forcibly separates and divides a thin layer fiber accumulating at the cutting edge of the tool one by one without having connections in length of the fibers to each other. The process produces needle like fibers of microscopic cross sectional area. The thin and short metal fibers are produced in the same number as number of the self excited vibrations, and the fiber is right angled in axis with the cutting direction.

  • Patent number: 4560622
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a steel fiber for reinforcing concrete. The steel fiber according to the present invention is a needle-shaped chip resulting from directly machining a steel ingot material. The fiber has a wrinkled surface with a plurality of rugged waves along the length of the fiber. This new production employs a plain milling cutter having a plurality of cutting edges of negative rake angle and twist angle with respect to an axis of the cutter for machining the ingot material by a down-cut milling under conditions of high speed and short depth of cut.

  • Patent number: 4472955
Abstract: A punch is pressed on a blankpiece into a die. The die is filled with liquid therein, whereby hydraulic counterpressure is generated by said pressing. The pressed blankpiece is forcibly followed in shape around the punch by hydraulic counterpressure, while part of the hydraulic counterpressure is automatically supplied to an outer circumference of the blankpiece via bypath passage. In case, the blankpiece is a plate, said supplied hydraulic pressure serves as compression force from the outer circumference of the flange to the radius direction. In case, the blankpiece is a product formed by a first drawing, said pressure serves as pressing force toward axial direction of a side wall of the product. When the supplied hydraulic pressure flows out from a space between the punch and a blank holder, the liquid serves as lubrication on an upper and lower surfaces of the blankpiece.

  • Patent number: 4198884
Abstract: A punching die which may be economically produced is disclosed herein. The die is reinforced by superimposing hard thin plates thereon. The punching die is composed of a die body soft enough to be machined and a thin plate, single or plural, which is harder than the die body. The plate has a hole coinciding with a configuration of a product to be punched. The superimposed plate is characterized in that it remains after a product has been punched out from said thin plate by the die body and the punch. The punching die may be easily operated during production. The procedure involves only slight abrasion of the shape. The device is highly durable and precise and operates without causing curvature in the product. Thus, it is suitable for mass production.
