  • Patent number: 8015564
Abstract: An embodiment of a method of dispatching tasks in a multi-processor computing environment begins with a step of a dispatcher within the multi-processor computing environment receiving job properties for a plurality of jobs to be processed in the multi-processor computing environment. Each job comprises at least one task. In a second step, the dispatcher employs an initial dispatching rule to assign an initial subset of tasks to processors within the multi-processor computing environment. The method continues with a third step of the dispatcher monitoring system status of the multi-processor computing environment. In a fourth step, the dispatcher selects a second dispatching rule from a plurality of dispatching rules in response to a change in the system status. In a fifth step, the dispatcher employs the second dispatching rule to assign a second subset of tasks to the processors.

  • Publication number: 20070159355
Abstract: A system and method for generating and delivering to users combined personalized traffic and weather report and alerts including forecast traffic and weather conditions. A user defines a travel route of interest and alert conditions. Based on current weather information, weather forecast information, current traffic information, and forecast traffic conditions a combined traffic and weather report for the user specified route is generated and delivered to the user via the internet and/or a wireless communications channel. The combined report may include a graphic display on a map background showing traffic conditions with a graphic representation of weather conditions overlaid thereon along with a tabular representation of traffic and weather conditions including forecast traffic and weather conditions for a plurality of future time periods. Alerts are generated and delivered when the traffic and weather alert conditions are satisfied.

  • Publication number: 20060209090
Abstract: A dynamic graphical information presentation is generated and overlaid onto a time-lapse video image sequence to form a combined graphical information and time-lapse photography presentation. The time-lapse photography video image sequence and dynamic graphical information presentation are preferably time synchronized in the combined presentation. For a weather presentation of past weather conditions, the time-lapse photography video image sequence may be a video image sequence of sky conditions, with the dynamic graphical information presentation generated based on weather conditions recorded for the same period of time from a weather information source. For a presentation of forecast weather conditions, the time-lapse photography video image sequence may be selected from a database of stored pre-recorded sequences, with the dynamic graphical information presentation derived from forecast weather condition information.

  • Publication number: 20060188011
Abstract: Systems, methods, and software used in performing automated diagnosis and identification of or forecasting service level object states. Some embodiments include building classifier models based on collected metric data to detect and forecast service level objective (SLO) violations. Some such systems, methods, and software further include automated detecting and forecasting of SLO violations along with providing alarms, messages, or commands to administrators or system components. Some such messages include diagnostic information with regard to a cause of a SLO violation. Some embodiments further include storing data representative of system performance and detected and forecast system SLO states. This data can then be used to generate reports of system performance including representations of system SLO states.

  • Publication number: 20060036366
Abstract: A system and method for generating storm warnings which are precisely tailored automatically for a particular individual or business user's geographic location of interest, which maybe provided automatically to the individual user or business. The user establishes an individualized user profile, in which the user may define a particular location of interest and a contact address to which a personalized storm warning is to be delivered. The user may also establish a storm profile defining attribute characteristics of a storm for which the user desires a storm warning to be provided, and an amount of advanced warning to be provided by the personalized storm warning. A detailed and accurate storm track, which includes information describing storm characteristics (severe weather conditions) as well as the current location and predicted track of movement of the storm, is generated.

  • Publication number: 20050262509
Abstract: An embodiment of a method of allocating computing resources begins with a first step of identifying applications which comprise candidates for execution on a shared computing system. In a second step, the method identifies at least one subset of the computing resources for each application. Each subset for a particular application comprises sufficient resources to support the particular application. The method continues with a third step of assigning a value to each subset. The method concludes with a fourth step of determining an assignment of the computing resources to the applications which provides a near maximal overall value.
