The aircraft system component is configured to output a first signal for display according to a first display format. The system also includes an abstraction component configured to generate a virtual display page according to the first protocol based on the signal received from the aircraft system component and to map the virtual display page into two or more modified pages. Each of the modified pages is configured according to a second display format and corresponds to a respective portion of the virtual display page. The abstraction component is further configured to output a second signal comprising a first of the two or more modified pages to the physical display unit for display according to the second display format. The abstraction component is configured to output a signal comprising a second modified page based on user input.

The system comprises at least one processing unit in an aircraft, and at least one communication device in the aircraft that is operatively connected to the processing unit. The communication device is configured to receive uplink messages from a ground air traffic control (ATC) center, and transmit downlink messages to the ground ATC center. The system also includes a human machine interface (HMI) in the aircraft that is operatively connected to the processing unit. The HMI is configured to receive input from a user and display information to the user. One or more data sources that provide dynamic information are in operative communication with the processing unit. The processing unit is configured to determine whether an ATC uplink message is acceptable based on analysis of the dynamic information from the one or more data sources.

The system also comprises a display unit configured to display a graphical flight progress indicator and one or more message icons, each of the one or more message icons corresponding to a respective in-flight message. The graphical flight progress indicator is representative of the characteristic of the flight measured by the sensor. Each of the one or more message icons are displayed in location relative to the graphical flight progress indicator based on the measured characteristic of the flight when the respective in-flight message was communicated.
