  • Patent number: 4316118
Abstract: An evacuated envelope having a front wall encloses a plurality of electron beam guides. Extending across one end of the beam guides is a line cathode which generates a plurality of electron beams and directs the beams into the guides. A pair of parallel modulation electrodes is associated with each beam guide and is positioned with the cathode between them. Each modulation electrode partially overlaps the associated electron beam guide. A cathodoluminescent screen is on the front wall.

  • Patent number: 4298819
Abstract: In a flat panel display device including spaced parallel guide meshes between which electron beams propagate, the guide meshes are formed to include projections extending into the electron beam propagation space. The projections restrict the electron propagation space in a direction perpendicular to the planes of the guide meshes and thus capture electrons near the extremities of the space.

  • Patent number: 4234815
Abstract: An evacuated envelope includes substantially parallel front and back walls with a cathodoluminescent screen on the front wall. Within the envelope, in spaced relation to the back wall and substantially parallel to the screen, it is an electron beam guide comprising a pair of spaced apart, elongated guide grids having a plurality of apertures therethrough. At one end of the beam guide is an electron beam generating and directing means which directs at least one beam of electrons between the guide grids. A shielding member is disposed between the screen and the beam guide adjacent to the electron beam generating means.

  • Patent number: 4174881
Abstract: A synthetic focused image hologram of a white light image is recorded as variations in the depths of grooves of a diffraction grating in a layer of thermoplastic material located on a layer of photoconductive material. The thermoplastic layer is manufactured with initial, uniform, shallow grooves of the diffraction grating. A voltage is applied across the layers to deposit a uniform charge, a white-light image is projected on the thermoplastic layer, the layers are recharged and the thermoplastic layer is heated, whereby the initial shallow grooves are selectively deepened in accordance with the image.

  • Patent number: 4153856
Abstract: An envelope of a display device includes a rear wall and a front wall having a cathodoluminescent screen thereon. Within the envelope are a plurality of electron beam guides and means for extracting electron beams out of the guide at various points. The electron beam guide comprises a first guide grid parallel to and spaced from the rear wall and a guide grid structure between the first grid and the front wall. Although there are unequal electric fields on the front and rear sides of the beam guide, the first guide grid and the guide grid structure maintain symmetry of the electric fields within the guide.

  • Patent number: 4148636
Abstract: A layer of thermally deformable plastic used, for example, in a holographic recording medium has an undulated surface whereby the layer has an uneven thickness. Because of the uneven thickness, the layer has a composite spatial frequency pass band greater than the spatial frequency pass band of a layer of uniform thickness.

  • Patent number: 4137478
Abstract: An evacuated envelope includes front and rear walls in spaced parallel relationship to one another and connected by a plurality of side walls. On the inner surface of the front wall is a cathodoluminescent screen having stripes of different color light emitting phosphor material. Within the envelope and adjacent to the back wall are a plurality of electron beam guides extending in one dimension. The electron beam guides include means for deflecting the beam out of the guide toward the screen. Between the screen and the beam guides in the evacuated envelope is means for focusing the deflected electron beam sequentially onto one of several stripes of the screen.

  • Patent number: 4131823
Abstract: An envacuated envelope has substantially flat, parallel front and back walls and spaced, parallel support walls extending between and perpendicular to the front and back walls and forming a plurality of channels. Beam guides extend along each of the channels for guiding three beams along each channel and for selectively deflecting the beams at selected points along the channel toward a phosphor screen on the front wall. Between the beam guides and the phosphor screen are deflection electrodes for deflecting the beams transversely across the channel so as to scan the portion of the phosphor screen which extends across the channel. Also between the beam guides and the phosphor screen is means forming an electron lens for converging the three beams at a point spaced from but adjacent to the screen.

  • Patent number: 4088920
Abstract: An evacuated envelope includes front and back walls and a plurality of spaced, parallel supports between, and perpendicular thereto which form a plurality of parallel channels. A gun structure at one end of the channels directs one or more electron beams along each of the channels. In each of the channels is at least one beam guide which confines the electrons of the beam but permits selective deflection of the electron beam out of the guide toward a phosphor screen on the inner surface of the front wall. The beam guide includes electrodes on the inner surface of the back wall and either a single grid plate or a pair of spaced, parallel grid plates spaced from and parallel to the back wall. The beam guide also includes means for laterally confining the electrons of the beam which may include spaced parallel wires between the back wall and the grid plates and extending along the channel or a special configuration of the electrodes on the back wall.
