Abstract: A wound closure device includes a first applicator including a handle portion and a substrate engaging portion and a second applicator including a handle portion and a substrate engaging portion. A first substrate is releasably couplable to the substrate engaging portion of the first applicator and includes a tissue reactive surface and a self-reactive surface. A second substrate is releasably couplable to the substrate engaging portion of the second applicator and includes a tissue reactive surface and a self-reactive surface. The self-reactive surfaces of the first and second substrates each possess reactive groups known to have complementary functionality for bonding the first and second substrates together.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a hydrogel composition and methods of using the same. The hydrogel composition may include precursors that react with each other upon contact as well as precursors that react upon contact with an initiator. In embodiments, the resulting hydrogels may have varying levels of crosslinking with both denser and less dense regions.

The dispenser housing has a proximal end and a distal end and defines a passageway therethrough. The protective liner is disposed within the passageway of the housing. The surgical tape is at least partially disposed within the dispenser housing and protected by the protective liner. The surgical tape has a first surface and a second surface each having at least one tissue reactive component.

Abstract: A surgical portal apparatus includes a sleeve having a proximal end and a distal end that extends along a longitudinal axis, and a surgical tape. The sleeve includes an inner wall defining an internal longitudinal passageway dimensioned for permitting passage of a surgical object therethrough and an outer wall configured for positioning against tissue. The inner and outer walls define at least a partial annular space therebetween, the annular space being in fluid communication with an opening in the outer wall. The surgical tape includes a body portion retained within the annular space of the sleeve and a leading tab extendable through the opening in the outer wall of the sleeve. The surgical tape has a first surface and a second surface, each of the first and second surfaces having at least one of tissue reactive functional groups and self-reactive functional groups.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes implantable medical devices which include at least one tissue-gripping element, such as a barbed loop or a barbed and spiked nap. In certain embodiments, the implantable medical devices include a biocompatible substrate having a surface containing at least one barbed loop. The at least one barbed loop may protrude perpendicularly from the surface of the biocompatible substrate. In embodiments, a plurality of barbed loops may be positioned along any portion of the surface of the biocompatible substrate.

Abstract: A method for attaching an implant to tissue is disclosed. In embodiments, a method includes applying a sprayable material to tissue, the sprayable material possessing functional groups capable of binding to tissue. The sprayable material also possesses functional groups capable of binding to an implant. In embodiments, the functional groups capable of binding to an implant include nucleotides. In such a case, the implant possesses complementary nucleotides capable of binding to the nucleotides on the sprayable material, thereby permitting hydrogen binding between the two. The implant may thus be affixed to tissue, and repositioned as necessary, prior to more permanent attachment utilizing means such as sutures, tacks, etc.

Abstract: A surgical instrument is provided including a handle portion and a body portion extending distally from the handle portion and defining a longitudinal axis. The surgical instrument also includes a grasper disposed at a distal end of the body portion, the grasper including an ultraviolet (UV) light mechanism for performing UV tacking of an implant. The implant is positioned between the first and second jaw members of the grasper: (i) to be placed at a surgical site and (ii) to be exposed by a UV light emitted from the UV light mechanism such that the UV tacking of the implant to the surgical site is performed.

Abstract: An applicator for use in tissue repair is provided. The applicator includes a base configured to dispense a material and an applicator tip operably connected to the base. The applicator tip includes a body having a distal end configured to engage a tissue defect and a mold disposed about the body configured to engage tissue about the tissue defect. The mold is configured to be selectively positioned about the distal end of the body between at least a first position and a second position to deposit material to form at least a first layer and a second layer. Also provided are applicator tips, methods and kits for tissue repair.
